Hi mark, the flag dragging data is better than just guessing where the pin is, on some greens which are not perpendicular to the fairway distances to right and left edges of the green can be grossly different and the feature really helps with this. The watch also allows you to mark GPS spots on the course and label them as bunkers/hazards or fairway. This means on a course you play regularly you have more information to play with. You're right that its good, but I think it's even better

Good video Mark. The touchscreen Garmin SG3 is exactly the GPS I will consider when my Garmin handheld bites the dust. I'm not that concerned with the pinpoint accuracy of moving the pin location. As with your approach shot, wanting to bend the ball around the trees, I simply want to know my distance to the center of the green. Golf is a very visual game and course designers often do their best to camouflage distances, which is why a Garmin GPS can be so helpful.

Good to see you out in the field hitting real balls. Marc you should do a video of difference between the real balls and the range balls.

it does but you still dont know where that pin is. You can move it near the front but its the same as guessing how far forward it is from the front yardage. Thanks for the comments.

Mark hello. Love the vids, playing golf about 5 years serious, playing off of 12-13 handicap. My biggest problem is approach to the green. I can drive the ball 285yrds straight, but my second shot will go in the bunker. Is there anything course management or shot alignment that will help. Hitting long shots long irons I am very good at, short irons a real hit or miss. .

Question about your "draw spin". Did you open up your club face to the right and then swing in a club path even more right of the face to produce the draw?

Haven't you missed some functionality where you can drag the pin position on the green? I have the S1 and other than the look and touch screen what you have mentioned is exactly the same - I was under the impression the s3 allowed you to plot the pin position on the green so it was more exact?

Mark, first off you do awesome work. But, you missed one of the key features of the S3 and that is the green view and the ability to change the pin location. No, you can't laser it, but if the course provides colored flags or pin placements for the day which most do then this unit gives you what you need. Keep doing what you do...

how do you turn off the watch to save battery? Also how do you update new courses? thanks

How about a review on the Garmin S4?

Costco carries this device too.. under $200.. I kinda prefer the Bushnell range finder for its ability to help with additional hazard info. This is a cool concept though

Can you play a hole with the $30GolfShot with the $10 GolfScape feature and compare it to these more expensive items?

A key feature of this watch is that you can add any hazards/trees yourself and it will save it for you so if you play a course often you can custom the hazards you want...

How long was the drive? About 240 (360-120)? Makes me laugh at how far some players boast they can drive it when you see a pro with great technique "only" hit it 240. Puts it in perspective. Great video, Mark.

The layup feature is a bit stupid as if you can subtract it becomes futile.. 230 from pin , layup at 80 I need to hit 150....... Nearly the same software as the Bushnell, except this unit has Europe and the USA in it, so you holiday guys wont be upset, whereas the S1 is either Europe or a USA version. The touch screen can be a bit fiddly as sometimes your sleeve changes the screen..

The S3 seems to only give you distances from the "white" tee box. So if you don't play the white tee box, then you will have to adjust dogleg/layup manually. I don't understand why Garmin would not simply give distances based on whichever tee box you are standing at, or at least provide that as an option.

any gps device uses data provided from the mid fairway-to-mid green mark. ie 150 200 marks in the centre of fairway. flag rotation will never be added to data. has to be done by the gift of vision and brain power. 100% futile
