If you have a uhd2 that option is not available, on the original uhd go into the individual sonar menus and find the “on screen control” which will let you select brightness or gain.

Besides adjusting Contrast and Brightness do you adjust any of the setting like TVG or Interference? My Clear VU used to be great and now isn't working well. Garmin thinks it's interference. I have same Garmin UHD 93SV and trolling motor set up from when I first got up my Kayak 6 months ago. Originally it worked great, not any longer. I love your tips on how to use my Garmins better. I learn something new with each one.

Not with any certainty, it’s tough when I’m walleye fishing to spot fish hugging the bottom. Sometimes i can see a difference in color on a hard bottom in 2D but telling the difference between species I rely on the ORIGINAL fish finder…….gulp or live minnow on a jig😂

Great video. Can I ask a question? At 12:44 you mark fish. On the traditional view they are long arches but on the down vu they are just dots. Why is that? I'm having a hard time seeing fish on down vu. You can see trees and brush really clear but the fish are just specs. Do you know why that is?
@DoubleTFishing
@DoubleTFishing 2 года назад
Yes, on traditional the sonar pattern is a wide cone, as it passes over the fish the signal starts slightly farther (lower) then closer (higher) then as it moves farther it gets lower again. The clear vu is a narrow beam that acts more like a coy machine so it captures small objects like fish as dots. Dots separated from branches/structure are normally fish. Take a look at the video below, explains it better. Thanks for watching!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vt0_8F4utY0.html

My first reaction is to have you lower your frequency if your in water over 25’ deep. Start out with your contrast around 80, brightness 90, scroll speed in auto, TVG and interference on low. Try it in a place with rock or wood on the bottom, soft bottoms just don’t have as sharp of returns. Try it at 4-5 mph idling. Make sure your transducer is level for the speed your traveling and make sure your voltage reading on screen is above 11 volts. Let me know how that works and have a great day!!!

Make sure your not in zoom mode. Not sure if your talking side vu, clear vu or both. Few things I would check is to make sure the transducer didn’t get moved, cable is plugged in tight. One other thing is if you are running the higher frequencies they won’t reach out very far. Drop it back to a lower frequency and see if you get a clear image. My side vu at 1120Khz with the GT54 transducer will only go out 60’ in 20’ deep water. I normally just use 455khz

Which is better for deep water garmin echo sv series or lowrance elite fs? Thank you in advance!
@DoubleTFishing
@DoubleTFishing Год назад
Tough question, I’m not nearly as up to speed on Lowrance units but even within the Garmin Echomap series the performance in deeper water is determined by the transducer and frequency it is operated at. First I would ask at what depth am I fishing and what sonar is available for that depth? Then take a look at the transducer specifications to see which gives you better performance, things like temperature, salt water vs fresh and water clarity also effect performance. So at the 9:15 range which image was correct about all those brush piles the 2d or the down image ?? If I were out in my boat and seen that 2d imaging I would of thrown a buoy out and fished there thinking there were a lot of brush there.
@DoubleTFishing
@DoubleTFishing 3 года назад
Hey Mike, good to hear from you. The traditional sonar pattern is a circle with a 16 to 20 degree angle whereas the clear view is a narrow 2 degree oval angle. The brush was showing up really dim couldn’t hardly see it which tells me it was small and soft. I think the brush was there for sure but it may have been I little farther out or I just had the clear vu set too low in contrast. That GT 54 transducer just doesn’t seem to reach out very far in the higher frequencies. I really want to drop an object in the water with a buoy marker and run some test to get a better idea of how the different sonars pick up object and the accuracy of marked waypoints.

Lots of fish, or not? From about 14:32 to 14:36 there appear to be alot of fishing marking on the Traditional. Are those fish or just debris, etc. in the water? I have the identical Garmin unit that you have and am not at all confident in how I'm reading the Traditional sonar and distinguishing among fish, algae, debris, etc. This is my first every Chartplotter/Fishfinder.
@DoubleTFishing
@DoubleTFishing 3 года назад
In our lake I’ve always assumed those are fingerlings rather than floating debris because the fishing tends to be better in those areas. It’s only 20’ deep so a game fish of any size will generally show up as a dot on the clear vu and my “go to” tattletale for size is if the arch has two separate colors. On that screen it would show yellow and blue arch’s on the traditional screen. Not to sound like a used car salesman but take a look at the video on frequency where I explain the difference in cone angles between traditional and clear vu, with the narrow angle of clear vu you don’t see arches. I used to get excited when I saw all the small lines but I started dropping a small jig head with a gulp minnow on them and figured out it was 3” sunfish and bluegill, most too small to eat the hook. Thanks for watching have a great weekend!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vt0_8F4utY0.html

How is it possible that you see all those are he’s on traditional and nothing on the clearvu?
@DoubleTFishing
@DoubleTFishing 2 года назад
Hi Alec, there are actually a couple reasons, first is size. Smaller fish do not show up on clear vu unless you crank the contrast and brightness up to the point the screen looks a little cluttered. Unfortunately, if I do that it looks really bad on camera (not to great in person either). Second the sonar cone angle of 2D traditional is much different. Traditional sonar is a round cone that covers a much larger area than does clear vu which is a thin narrow cone. I did a video 4 months ago titled "why does a fish look like an arch or a dot on my fish finder" that explains some of that. Thanks for watch and have a great day!!
@astrahl

I’m using the GT54 with the scroll speed in Auto, I’ve heard a few comments about clarity lately. Is the transducer mounted on your trolling motor or on the transom? I play with my contrast and brightness to get clarity of the objects. Normally unless I have the contrast too high the water column stays pretty clear. Might try getting up to speed then stop the motor, trim it up and glide to see if it’s turbulence from the motor. Assume the voltage to the unit is at or over 11.5v.

This video goes more in depth of the actual settings, see if this is a little more what your looking for, it is broke into section so you can skip ahead and look for the blue screens thanks for watching ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kfHoayA9J9Q.html

I really enjoyed the video! Ive never ran a fish finder but am planning on getting one soon. Just got the bass pro black friday sales paper in the mail and was reading reviews on this model. Question tho, do you think I should start with a simpler ff for my first set up? When I'm reading the comments with all the frequencies and cones and megahertz get a little worried about spending so much and not getting the full use of it. Thanks again for the video and wanted to say hey from Texarkana! Keep up the good work brother.

To answer your question best both inexpensive and expensive units have similar option menus, the price change is mainly in screen size, transducer type and maps. I would say get what you can afford that makes sense. I wouldn’t put an $1,100 unit on a kayak at first and you want to decide if you need maps. That is the main driver, if you fish locally and can make QuickDraw maps a Striker is a good option, you won’t get the super clear images but it gets the job done. I have multiple sonar units I don’t use anymore that basically got used a season or less. If I had broke down and bought a decent unit I’d have saved money!! The echomap for example has many options but you can start out simple using the default settings and dial it in as you begin to understand what your looking at. If you hadn’t already take a look at this video link on the striker vs echomap. Don’t be afraid to get the echomap if it makes sense plus it gives you opportunities to network and add forward facing sonar later if you want ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_S5YCJDCguQ.html

How do you get 14.2 volts?

When the big motor is running the alternator puts that much out, it’s normal. The Garmin is good for higher voltage, 18v or higher

Your video(s) are most informative. I am learning a great deal about how to use my Garmin 93v. I hate to be old and dumb.....lol....but I'm willing to learn from what you teach. Please keep up the good work. I do appreciate it.
