I have been using the Garmin Varia RCT 715 for about a year now. And in this vlog I show what this great piece of cycling equipment is all about. It is paired to my Wahoo Roam and works perfectly. I have a couple of tips to share with you, from my year long experience.
My observations are the subject of this ride. So come along and enjoy another great cycling adventure.

I use the garmin on all my rides .i ride alone a lot. I have had one now for about two years.best bit of kit i have ever bought.its like having eyes in your back and also more time looking at the surface you are riding on rather than looking back all the time .worth every penny 👍

wow, well behaved drivers you have there. lotsa elbow room for you. And yes i have that radar too. Cant live without it but no matter a side mirror is still a must have just to see who is coming and not getting sandwich by a long trailer!

Hey Stanly, the Varia is an excellent piece of tech for road cyclists. I wouldn’t feel comfortable riding without it, as the information it shares is excellent. Thankfully most motorists are able to pass a cyclist without any issues, it’s just the odd one that lacks the ability. Take care and happy safe riding. ⚡️🚴🏻👍🏻

Best bit of cycling kit I have bought .... paired with Garmin edge it's like having an extra pair of eyes ... in traffic it's a god send love the fact I can see how many cars are behind me and how close they all are ... a considered purchase but I wouldn't ride without mine now

I've got the Magene radar, paired with my Wahoo Roam, and I love it. The beeping sound bugs me at times (on roads with lot of traffic) but better to have it then not.

The Garmin Varia RCT-715 is a must have if you ride in traffic. I’ve had mine for about 9 months and would feel awkward if I rode without one. One other feature is that you can share the Varia data when riding with friends. All they need is the Varia app on their phone and they can connect to your Varia in real time.

Thanks for the great video! I have been pondering one of these for a while, but how does it cope without Image Stabilisation? Certainly the videos you posted seemed very clear, but have you ever thought you needed IS on some roads where there's potholes aplenty?!

Hi Phil, I really wouldn’t ponder about getting a Garmin Varia, this thing will change your road cycling forever. It’s by far the most important and best piece of tech on my bike and I really recommend you get one. As for image stabilisation, it would be nice but it’s not really that important as this is a cycle cam and not an action camera. As you can see in the video, the Varia does a great job recording approaching vehicles and clearly displays the registration numbers if you ever needed them. Hey Bill, you need to download the Garmin Varia app in the first place, and use this app to set up your radar. All the features are easily set up to your liking and then your riding experience will never be the same. I wouldn’t ride without my Varia, because it’s like having eyes looking back all the time. How long does it last with the light in off mode. Its a real shame it only records for 30 second burst and is a pain if you want to video a rear view ride in its entirety unless you know a way round this.

Hey Russ, you can set up the Varia anyway that suits you. The light has 6 different patterns to choose from and the camera can record continuously or just when it detects a vehicle as I have it set on. The battery will last 4 to 6 hours depending on the settings you are using. The Varia is the best piece of tech I have on my bike. I highly recommend all road cyclist get one, because I wouldn’t ride without it. Take care ⚡️🚴🏻👍🏻
