GARRARD SL 95b Turntable, $20 Garage Sale Find 

I still have and use my SL-95B so I have some extra info that I picked up... The SL-95B was 1 step down from Garrard's top of line ZERO-100 ( pivoting zero tracking error tone arm) at the time. The 95b's arm does have " anti skating control" and is easily capable of tracking at under 1 gram without skipping or sliding if set up right. The original plastic cabinet also had 2 side compartments to stow the changer spindle along with a short stubby center with a drop in "hockey puck" to center your 45's.( Ty Lee was asking about that) You are right that stacking was bad for your records, but some people wanted the option of stacking and just letting it play for hours by itself. The cueing switch was dampened to set the tone arm down slower. The only thing I did wish it had was speed adjust with a strobe. "Channel clear, go ahead breaker"

This is a very nice turntable. Actually NOT that hard to get running. Have to clean the dried grease off if all the areas that are supposed to move. The trip pawl on the big cam gear can be freed easily with a heat gun on low while working the pawl back and forth with a needle nose pliers. After it loosens, it might get sluggish again when it cools down. Usually takes a few workings to free it up to stay. Under the platter, the mechanism on the right needs to be free as well. There are actually 2 pieces, the second one smaller and sitting on top of the bottom one. They need to be able to move independently of each other or when the cycle is complete the tonearm will set back down on the record and then shut off instead of landing on it's rest like it's supposed to. Don't think for a second that this turntable isn't good. It's built like a tank and when you get everything working, it will run forever.

I never had the intestinal fortitude to turn mine upside down. Perhaps all it needs is a good cleaning. Thanks.

Lucky you! My dad’s isn’t in a cabinet like that. That almost looks custom. I love that turntable. Enjoy. Where’s the 45 adapter and the short adapter piece for 33 1/3 records?

Excellent find! Question: why are there 3 33 & 1/3 rpm speed positions? I see the smaller numbers next to each but those small numbers and the 3 identical speed positions do not compute.

Green stylus are for 78 records.
