Hi, thanks for the Q. It's a trick to help identify nails and how they lay in the ground. When first detected they "might" produce a signal depending on where Disc is set? It's the responses they can give when a coil is swept over them from different directions. By that I mean if the nail in the soil is laying in an East > West position i.e. lengthways, then the detector will "see" a long object and respond accordingly. If the nail is laying in a North > South position (vertical with top and bottom facing up/down) then that orientation presents 'less of a target' to the coil and the Discrimination might decided not to put out an audio. To help do this in the field it's easiest to turn your body rather than turn the coil. Sweep back across the signal from different directions. That is what I did here. Des D
nice video on the ACE 400 you give more info to new user. the 90* sweep is the best way to determine if what you are having under the coil is ferrous or not...with the help of the IRON AUDIO the ACE 400 help IDed iron. thus, fast detecting. if there is an iron grunt after hearing a Bell Tone probability is that the object has IRON content and could be read as TRASH. not unless if you are Relic Hunting. more video on your ACE 400!
