Mashdetectors.com - Testing out the Garrett ATX and the Minelab SDC 2300 in VERY HOT dirt on the same 3 gold nuggets as part 3 test. We have discovered on this test and part 3 test that the Minelab SDC 2300 on some targets with a conductivity number around 60-67 can sometimes appear to miss are have a degraded signal compared to the ATX. Like a "hole" in the detecing field.
From previous experience, the Whites TDI detector does this also at certain ground balance settings. TDI and SDC2300 detectors are both single pulse, single channel detectors and this is usually the cause of this phenomenon. In comparison, the Garrett ATX is a multiple pulse, multi-channel detector as is the Minelab GPX series of detectors...

My GP 3000 would start pulsing when an military aircraft would fly overhead.

One of the best reviews. Where you’ve compared the machines with similar coils. The only question I have is “Were the sensitivities & threshold the same on both machines?” I’m also pleased you were testing on the highly mineralised soil as these machine cost a lot of money & I live in Australia which is extremely mineralised & I’m doing research to buy one.

love your videos my two favourite machines as well! But unfortunately here in Australia the Atx is 4,200 and the minelab is 3500 so not much difference in price, but think I will start with the Atx going by all videos just seems to be most reliable machine less complicated plus very nice military look about it! cheers for the upload :)

hi Nathan, did you end up buying the ATX? I want to set up to a better detector and Im in Australia as well. Looking to work around Ophir, hill end etc ... Its a hard choise between these two.. The newer GPZ would be great but simply too over priced

yeah mate there both great machines but I would recommend the ATX for value for money it is still the dream machine in my eyes still haven't got one yet but as soon as I have the spare cash will be tracing after one of those love that machine!!

How do you figure the ATX is less complicated? The sd2300 is designed for beginners?

Wow something must be totally different with the gold and hot ground we have in Western Australia , the garret wouldn’t even be concidered for our hot ground , the only guys iv ever seen using the atx are following dozers detecting on unbroken ground here there is no comparison , they must make them different in the USA

If you do not think about the price. What kind of detector is better and smaller ... SDC 2300, Garret ATX, GPX 5000,?

That random pulsing noise the minelab makes can sometimes be caused by satellites as they pass over.

I've owned both machines and I will never go back to a Garrett ATX, to make falsing when the coil is bumped when gold detecting and Garrett are to slow in providing coil covers for the ATX and It sounds like a piano accordion and it is to heavy to use for any length of time.

Robert Neil All coil covers are availiable now and yes the ATX can be a little cranky when bumping things sometimes...

Man I will keep my GPX 4500 ..... If I ever find a 7 gram nugget, I'm pretty sure it will detect it 18" to 24" inches .....

You are not the first person to notice how twitchy the Minelab can be...its enough to keep me from buying one.

Great videos, Minelab makes good machines but they have Apple (the company) disease every now and then. They REALLY value their own stuff and they make you pay through the nose. Not that their machines aren't good to occasionally great but you need to a run cost benefit analysis and not get overwhelmed with the flash.
@tasteegold7772
@tasteegold7772 9 лет назад
bitch all you want..minelab does what it wants when it wants and how it wants and thats never gonna change..and people like me will STILL get their stuff cause its the best plain and simple.i mean look at the excalibur series (my chosen and most used minelab btw)its pretty much remained unchanged for over 16 years or so ..is BBS great tech?..yes it is but SOME changes couldve been made to make it more customizable

Apple was at the top of the smartphone market. Now Samsung owns most of the market share... Chevrolet and Ford controlled their section of the automobile Market, now its Toyota, Honda ..etc Nothing ever stays the same, no matter how long you stay at the top of the market (not that Minelab owns the biggest share overall of the metal detector market).. eventually you will fall. Thats not wishing bad luck "or bitching" that's reality.
@tasteegold7772
@tasteegold7772 9 лет назад
TexasTigerDigs let me answer this in bite size portions..apple died with steve jobs,dog meat must be good brain food cause between hyundai and samsung the south koreans are onto something,American car companies buried themselves by serving us unreliable crappola shitboxes for decades and decades..BUT minelab are and always will be the reigning emperors of metal detectors and yeah they're arrogant at times and basically does what bruce candy tells them to but lets face it with all the whiners out there can minelab or any co ever truly satisfy everyone?..a resounding NO!
@Texastigerdigsdetects
@Texastigerdigsdetects 9 лет назад
I agree they are good, to great.. But empires fall.. Rome Fell, Greece fell, IBM fell. You can never presume eternal dominance, and I am sure the people at Minelab don't presume that or they would stop innovating.
