It's a little late in coming, but music like this is the rebound from the setting of "Murder on Music Row" and "Gone Country." Alan named the problem and Ashley answered. Country music, at its heart is poetry about life set to music. It doesn't need a drum beat or electricity, light shows or coordinated dancers. as a teenager in 90's Scotland, Country wasn't cool, but my dad liked Don Williams and Slim Whitman and my Mum liked Patsy Cline,,, and I knew every word to every one of their songs,, hardly anybody in Scotland had ever heard of Garth Brooks, then this one time the quietest one of our (only) 4 TV ,,channels, BBC2 I think it was, played a Garth Brooks concert at like 2am one night, "this guy sells more concert tickets in America than Madonna" I was lucky to have taped it on VHS,, needles to say I loved it and played it over and over,, when in my late teens my friends would mock me for my weird tastes in music,, but one friend in my "dorm" was sad because his girlfriend had dumped him,, " can I borrow your Garth Brooks CD's?" I then knew it was cool not to follow other music trends and to listen to what makes you feel good,, Garth is fantastic,,, I'm 45 now and I wish Chris Stapleton would come to Scotland and do a gig!!! nobody listens to the bands that were cool in the 90's anymore,, Except maybe the Stone Roses,, Ashley McBride is coming over soon,
You know the only thing that makes this song even better is hearing Garth Brooks sing it live in Spokane. I'm going crazy over Ashley McBryde and Garth Brooks is already my favorite. I didn't know whether I should jump up-and-down and scream or sit in the chair and cry and reflect.

Yes and it was awesome! Beautiful moment when he dedicated "Mom" to a woman who had lost her son many years ago. The encore with him and a guitar was just awesome, but you could feel everyone in the moment with Garth during that song.

Seen Ashley at the CMA Fest in Nashville in June, also at the Grand Ole Opry same week and she is just amazing. I love her album "Girl Going Nowhere", her rendition of this song is 100 times better than Garth's, I also love all of Garth's music but he butchered that song. Check her Album out, but especially her version at the Grand Ole Opry when you can feel how much every word of that song means to her. Next Country Music superstar in my opinion.
