This was a great interview. I had no idea Coach Gary was coaching so many talented athletes. Wishing him and this podcast success, growth, and prosperity.
Track needs to either go with a grand slam format similar to tennis in golf Have 5 to 6 major meets Or dish out real salaries that way u can get athletes to run at more regular season meets and the shoe companies won’t the ability to control the sport and athlete
Gary is a wonderful human being. I remember I was chasing a dream and had the opportunity to run post college. I was lucky enough to encounter Gary when he was coaching Xavier Carter and this man was practically my coach and allowed me to train with him. He didn’t ask for anything but effort lol and that’s all I could afford. Stand up guy and will never forget this dude for his humble demeanor and his big heart. He didn’t have to do anything for me but he did. he made a big impact on me. Make no mistake he is a great coach but even better human being
The man ran 19.63 at 20... only Knighton and Tebogo have run faster at the same age or younger. Really could have been a strong competitor to usain bolt
@@Yes_I_c4n I agree people peak at different ages, however I don't fully understand what your second comment is about. I mean, Bolt did run his fastest race in 2009 at age 22, so you could say he peaked at 22. And just to be clear, my comment is implying that Xavier Carter running such fast times at a young age makes him someone who had huge potential when he is older assuming that sprinters generally improve past the age of 20.
@@cookiemonsteryummyyumz I was saying that Carter might have been an early bloomer, starting to decline earlier than expected. Much like Bolt, though Bolt was able to maintain a ridiculously high level from 21 all the way to 26.
@@cookiemonsteryummyyumz You're suggesting that him running such fast times at such a young age should translate to him running even faster times at say 25/26, right? I'm just saying I don't see it like that. Though usually a sprinter peaks at around 25-27, a lot of sprinters might not fall into this category. Bolt was one such example. There's tons of fast sprinters at an early age that simply don't excel once they turn pro.
Coach Gary is truly amazing. I remember him letting me "Train" Xavier Cater and Bernard Williams. He is an absolute phenomenonal coach. And I'll be forever appreciative to him
