I spoke to mr Freeman at a function of his former junior rugby league club the Glenfield greyhounds and asked him what was going on in his head when he started a fight with Blocker Roach in the 1986 test and he told me it because he was shit scared of Blocker but to this day they're the best of friends and thats how footy should be..

What a GREAT tackler, i dont think Jonah Lomu would have got past Freeman, he would find a way, usually if Lomus' size he let you get past him and then took your legs out from the Calfs, not a lot of muscle there and obv THE BEST place to attack a giant from, Allen Langer was the same but he was more of a scraggy guy who scragged them down in the same manner as Freeman but Gary had the classier all round tackling game, both were mighty fine tacklers though, and BOTH them didnt give a toss how big you were. Remember Gavin Millar and Freemans match where Freeman didnt take a backward step against the much bigger guy and Forward of ilrepute globally in league player circles, Freeman lost two of his front teeth to Millar that day, and early in the game, did NOT deter the little guy one iota, he played the rest of the game like he had 3 sets of teeth. A true, "Hard Little Bastard!"
