Gary was the sound of my youth, I loved dancing to his music at the Americana in Edinburgh in the early 70s. His music was so fresh and innovative at the time with the double drum kit giving that fabulous heavy beat. I still have the vinyl album Glitter, his music will never die!
Far from his sickness, he is a genius of rock music....I was a teen and love this kind of music in the discos...And I dance of all his music, with very good soundarround equipments. Excuse my lettering.

I like the instrumental sound on this version, however I believe Bon Scott's voice on AC/DC's version is better. His voice is crying as he begs her not to go. I'm not smart enough to extract the music from the voice and visa versa, to try to do a voice layover. Would be curious to see if possible, probably not AC/DC plays fast.
This one wasn't on his "Ultimate ..." or "Greatest ..." collections, but I remembered it since I was 15. It was transmitted by "The voice of America" radio station with such much of distortions that you are able to recognize half of the song with difficulty. But nevertheless, it shocked by its freshness, originality, juiciness and energy. This is one of his most notable songs. The contrast between Gary's piercing voice and the basses of detuned guitars, saxophones and a monotonous rhythm of the drummers creates a charming, penetrating effect.
'The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll' (1983 edition) had this to say: - '(Glitter had) a distinctive sound, later revived by Adam and the Ants, featuring heavy drumming, hand claps, echo guitar and football - cheer choruses.

I was a fan from the 70's,until i heard what he was doing,Cannot forgive him for what he has done to innocent children.I can separate him from the music,as i still listen to it.He also ruined the career's of the Glitter Band.

This really was a show stopper on staga as Gary bouble acted between the sax and Gerry S. on guitar. I will stand up for G. he was a very kind, generous and fun individual and it was a joy working with him. Whatever happened later is all very sad and neither here or there in relation to his music and the good that he did for (at that time) the industry and for the economy. Paul in france

Beside the brasses, Mike Leander was the one playing all instruments on G.G. albums "Gary Glitter" and "Touch Me". GREAT GREAT job and playing ; and above all, Mike Leander's guitar sound "secret recipes" on most of the tracks. This will remain a mystery ... and my forever quest. If anyone can teach me more about that guitar sound, I'm a taker.
@@mickwolff8529 Thank you very much, you're right. True that most of the time, guitar patterns are played with bottleneck. And also, most of these patterns are "monophonic" (one note at a time). What remains a secret to me is (are) : 1) guitar equalisation on mixing desk and (maybe) graphic equalizer. 2) (maybe) what type of fuzz pedal. 3) what guitar model Mike Leander did play on. His guitar sounds were very unique in all the british glam rock era. For example, T.REX guitar sound or SLADE guitar sound are not "mysterious" to me. The only testimony I've been given is : when Mike Leander did record in Paris (1973), he asked french sound ingeeniers to transform guitar amps from 220volts to 110volts.
The secret of this guitar sound is that all strings were tuned into E. I have interview with Gary on CD, and he explained that Mike Leander didn't know how to play guitar properly, so he tuned all strings to E, and they've got double E in 3 octaves sounded huge with little distortion. That's the secret weapon of Rock and Roll part 2, played with slide, bottle neck or metal stick. They created groovy rhythms and when I heard this in 70s first thought was kind of indian or african music, just rhythm and voices. Bass gave also different rhythm to it all. I think that Mike as a sax player could also play the piano heard on Always Yours, so he had musical knowledge, which helped him create minimalistic but powerful arrangements. Their pulsing bass reached the top in 90s techno. For me their music is a junction or bridge between rock and roll rock and 70s disco , it's a class on their own. I Didn't know I love you till I saw you rock and roll, Hello, I'm a leader, I love you love me love, Rock on, Babe please don't go are my favs. Later on The Glitter Band created also some catchy rocky tunes: Lets get together again, Angel Face, Goodbye my love, People like you, and a few more, brilliant.❤😍
