WOW! First time I've ever heard this song from Gary! Besides the fact that it is a beautiful yet sad song, to hear Gary sing this just breaks my heart! Perfect song; perfect artist!
Can you imagine if Gary was in these talent shows like The Voice or American idol, of course he’s way above those shows. But just think of how he would blow them right off the building. I know it’s not Apple to apples in comparison but man, I would like to see that. Just my fantasy.
Gary is a true artist in every sense. He has a voice like no other in the world and it shows in this song. Thanks Galaxies7 for posting this video and all the other videos. I absolutely love this song and have missed Gary's music for the past 10 years or so. He is all I have listened to since I found this video and the others you have posted. I love his voice that much. I wish he hadn't stopped recording but i'm very happy to here that he is recording again. Can't wait to buy his new music.
One of the most beautiful voices in music! I’m so confused as to why he wasn’t a superstar? He sang tge power ballads before Travis, Jackson or Brooks!
"FULL LYRICS" It's been a long time it seems Since you left to chase your dreams You say it's going well But it's hard to tell from here. You say that you need more time But I already heard that line You say there's much to be done But what about the one That you left behind. Chorus: I've been leavin' the light on for you Just like I promised that I'd always do So don't be gone too long 'Cause the light may not be on. I've been waiting patiently But there's been a change in me Am I still yours cause I'm wonderin' If you're still mine You follow your heart I know Well my heart's about to go I had a dream too And I thought it was you But now I'm not so sure. Chorus: I've been leavin' the light on for you Just like I promised that I'd always do So don't be gone too long 'Cause the light may not be on. I've been beside you all the way Encouraging your dreams How was I supposed to know They'd be takin' you from me. Chorus: I've been leavin' the light on for you Just like I promised that I'd always do So don't be gone too long 'Cause the light may not be on... Oh yes the light may not be on........................
I don't know if it was ever released but I caught this in 1992. He just released a couple of Gospel CDs and a Hymns CD and now his new Faith and Freedom CD. You can purchase it here at his website
It was recorded on his 1991 Full Moon, Empty Heart album. One of his best. I have them all even pre CD on the cassettes. Saw Gary a number of times when he was starting out playing at State fairs and such in the early 80’s, late 70’s. Lot of awards, record of the years etc. started his own studio in Nashville. Then pushed employee Faith Hill to peruse her music career. A great tenor with unmistakable vibrato unique to country music.
