Romario is a legend. Without him Brazil would never have qualified for USA 94 let alone won the tournament! The players you watch growing up are always the ones that you remember the most. Wonderful player.
Romario was the best and most consistent finisher in the box I had ever seen, with the ball 1on1 against the gk, 90% chance of scoring, vs gk+1defender still 90%, vs gk+2 defender STILL 90% !!
@@cothatgiacmo5920 I would rate ronaldo9 as a more complete player because of his physical qualities. However I would not rate him higher than Romario in terms of finishing. You are entitled to your point of view.
Romario´s generation is underrated, they came before the global sponsors (Nike, Adidas) start to put the best football players images in every place in the world. So, in the end, Romario , Baggio, Laudrup , Van Basten and many others legends became underrated in comparison to the generation of superstars that came right after them (Ronaldo9, Zidane and co). Still, Romario was the most technical striker ever. As Cruyff said: ' the genius of the box, the genius of the tight spaces'.
Ronaldo (R9) was the best player I've ever seen. Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo have all the stats, but, a young Ronaldo (R9) was just different class. Nobody could run as fast as he could with the ball under complete control. Nobody. It was injury that curtailed his career prematurely ( preventing him scoring more goals ), therefore many people under 40 years old either forget, or never even saw him at Barcelona as a teenager when Bobby Robson managed. The goals and dribbles he performed beating player after player were simply jaw-dropping.
"Boring". That's the last word you can associate with Romario. Probably you saw some videos of him scoring in Brazil. He was old, like 38, 39, could not keep any pace. But his sense of positioning was extraordinary. Arguably, in that sense, the best ever.
because he just played two seasons in europe or so, and it was before the era of internet and pay tv. if he would have been five years younger, he would be more famous
I’m old enough to remember the genius of Romario in his prime! Even in his early days at PSV with Bobby Robson at the helm he was a fantastic player! That other guy Ronaldo was it? He was ok as well!!!
@@danieliannelli2143 underrated by football fans around the world because they havent seen him enough. Just because South Americans know his worth, it doesn't mean hes not underrated.
@@paultokjian7915 He's not underrated by anyone. You sound like you just saw a RU-vid video of em for the first time and you're all excited😅😅 just chill the fuck out, calm down, Paul Tokjian, more like Paul Talkshit hahaha I got you there. Admit it! Admit it now you son of a bitch!
Only young people say I think hes underated because that's the go to as not really had pleasure to see him play.. him and bebeto upfront for brazil brilliant
Gary actually played against R9 in his prime in 1997 Tournoi du France. Ronaldo and Romario played that game and Romario scored the winner for Brazil NT. I think Ronaldo was slighty better as a overall player, but I understand his point: Romario was the best I have ever seen inside the box, his instinct and ball control in tight spaces was something else, really hard for any defender.
Geraldo Veloso I remember that game very well. 1-0 but Sol Campbell was outstanding and really we should have lost by more were it not for him. Romário was amazing. And in a way it seems, slightly forgotten. People talk more of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Zico
Of course people dont know Romario, the internet had no proliferated then That is why Messi gets all the plaudits Maradonna is mentioned more because he is also Argentinian
@killahyj i have to agree,i think we never got to see it all with r9,same as with van basten, would have gone on to be even more legendary than he already is
During his lifetime, Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano admired Romario the most as well. Unrivaled quickness and killer instinct. He was not the best of teammates, as he should have been an alternate in the 2002 team and the manager refused due to team chemistry, but there is no denying his brilliance.
Read his book 'Soccer in sun and shadow' (1995). It is a great read. And I agree with you, Romario is a legend, plus a world cup champion who represented his nation countless times. I was just making a comment about his feud with Bebeto back in the day, who is also a Brazilian legend in his own right.
Ed Morrison just watch the highlight vid by Heil RJ All 15 mins You’ll see It’s close In Brazil they are considered level Romario scores over 800 goals He kept going to like age 40 He was a genius
In modern era... ronaldiniho in his prime for 1 or 2 seasons was very very very good, ronaldo in his early years was insane. Lets no forget adriano for 1 or 2 seasons, was amazing. Also rivalado was top top player.
The myth that Ronaldinho was 'good' for only one or two seasons is ridiculous and far too often said on RU-vid. He was the best player in the world for at least 4 seasons, by a long way, and his style changed the sport. The entire sport of football. That's huge.
Agree with Gary Neville here. Romario in 1994, at the zenith of world football in my opinion, rose above even the greatest Italian player ever Roberto Baggio to win the World Cup which for me the 1994 version is the greatest exhibition of footballing glory. Almost every team was jammed pack with legend after legend in every department on the pitch and even the bench. His instincts, his work rate, his incredible finishing and positioning is the pinnacle of what it takes to be a super star striker. Players these days no longer have such instincts and movement anymore. The modern Center forwards are just athletes trying to bash their way around to strike on goal. What Romario and Baggio showed was silky skills, powerful dribbling and supremely gifted shooting and finishing where they don’t even need to look at the goal and place the shot where they want
@ *:023* it was *Edmundo* who did that to him not *Romario.* He doesn't even remember who did what in which game. I remember that game (vs Vasco Da Gama) like it was yesterday and I knew straight away that he made a blunder when he said that. I love Romario and agree that he is great but how credible is someone's *(Neville)* opinion when they are attributing things to someone which someone else did? That would be like *David Seaman* calling (Brazilian/R9) *Ronaldo* the greatest striker and then explaining how his free kicks were the greatest and how he couldn't believe how he beat him so far out. Get it together Gary!
R9 at Barcelona and those early years at Inter was something special, incredible player skill, technical ability, power, grear finisher and the real equalizer explosive pace.
Chris Lee Kaka was world player of the year and for at least 3 years was the best player in the world. He was unstoppable in his prime.i saw both and for pure ability I can't split them.differnt players though
Aye, Neville was never quite a world-class defender, but at his best he was very, very good. A lifetime as first choice RB for Manchester United proves that.
Romario was boring. I've seen his compilation videos. Nothing special. Just prolific. I look at the Brazilian Ronald and it's like a bull doing ballet. Incredible....no...... _Phenomenal!_
Brazilian Ronaldo was so good his dribbling were more entertaining then most of his goal. Romario was just prolific/high goal scorer for many teams, but the goals were mainly dull.
As an Inter Milan fan I can tell you first hand Kaka is one of the fastest players in a straight line to ever play soccer (on top of his amazing talent) as an example watch this video where he smokes a young Messi while carrying the ball with him ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TAyklhjtzb0.html
no its not. Running at that high of speeds with the ball controlled is not easy. Him having the ball there and Messi not gives Messi a huge advantage and he broke away from him in open field, and in other games ive seen him seem to move even quicker. The only people really in this discussion with him are (CR7, Robben, Bale,) and its very close because while CR7 might have a higher top sprint speed it doesn't mean hes faster with the ball at his feet. Its a tough call
+Mirgjan Kupi I wouldn't say Bale, Robben or CR7, they usually kick the ball a few feet in front (more so with Bale) and then catch up to it. Kaka ran as if he was jogging and the opponents where putting full energy to catch up.
No he's not. The best player in any sport is the player that can play that sport to the highest level. So the best player is not the one with the best statistics, but the one that at his best is better than anyone else at their best. If u take into account statistics, titles and impact on the game, u have greatness. So to sum it up: Pele might be the greatest due to his impact on football, his incredible stats and the fact that he basically invented many moves players use nowadays................ BUT........... there have been/there are countless footballers nowadays that can play the game to a higher level than he ever did.
Not countless, but a few. Brazilian players = Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, perhaps Neymar. I would still say Pele was slightly better than Neymar though. He was more effective and more intelligent with the ball than Neymar, maybe. There are countless players if we're talking non-Brazilians though. Messi obviously is better, Zidane probably equal to Pelé below Messi, same for Maradona.
