As an American, he is spot on. The only thing that bears mentioning that he didn't point out is that American leagues have one element in place to regulate their business - the salary cap. American leagues want to solidify their respective bases to warrant further investment and expansion (capitalism). The salary cap keeps individual markets in check and puts the focus on the business acumen of the front offices - namely the General Manager (I think you guys call that position the Sporting Director). This is especially significant for the success of the NFL and why the league is MILES ahead of any other American league and why the NBA is often ridiculed for their lack of business foresight that has created a league that is top-heavy with a lot of below average teams - they are reliant on marketing and apparel sponsorship because viewership is low. I have often wondered what the Premier League would look like if there were a spending limit, but I doubt that would go over well at this point and I'm guessing that's what has attracted so many American billionaires to English football in recent times. I don't pretend to know what the solution is, but I hope this all gets sorted out soon because this is an awful look for the American investors in England. Business is business, but this is just greed for greed's sake with no regard for the patrons whatsoever.

I think what we need is independent third party independent to intervene for financial fair play for acquisition/investment. Basically, there's nothing wrong with investing in clubs. But the owners must prioritize investing in the club first than paying off the debt for the money they acquired the club. For example, there should be a rule that 75% (certain amount) should be reinvested in the club from the yearly profit/revenue. And third party should investigate and if that doesn't happen, the owners must sell the club or banned from the league. Otherwise, these people come in and do leverage buy out and leech from the club and the fans for all their generations.

@@benisrood if we have not leave Highbury, we would complain on a missed opportunity. Abramovic, Uzmanov, Glazier, FGC, FA, UeFa, Kronke, all had a bigger part in this. Uefa had been running things poorly for so long, that these clubs dared to do these things.

@R To be fair what you have in Europe is not superior in every way. For example in the NHL we have a salary cap so that every team in the league is restricted in how much money they can spend on player salaries. This has naturally created a level of competition that you will never see in the EPL. The 'big clubs' are big because of the history and having the best management, coaches and player development, etc. because they can't always just go out on the transfer market and buy better players. And the best players are a lot less mercenary because there's no temptation to jump around clubs looking for bigger and bigger paydays. Some of what's accepted in European football culture is a joke to us.

Its a brand name. Like Champions league where 90% of entrants are losers not champions. And America is not really a country tbh. Its like the EU. Each of those states are a seperate country in a union.

That was a good one. The NBA (as I've only followed basketball in terms of American sports) has a horrible, horrible structure. You can't tell me it's in anyway exciting to be able to compete from the 8th spot, although you've won three times as less games than the first team, just because of a shitty playoff structure. NO to franchise sports.

@@FrankCostello-to1ud Don’t get it twisted football’s answer to competition is my preference. But the reason a 1-8 playoff system works in Basketball is because they play a best of 7 series. The vast majority of the time the best teams and best players will get the job done.
