For this episode of Electric Friends, I look back at one of #GaryNuman's first ever projects - a TV advert jingle!
Gary recorded a short track called 'Don't Be a Dummy' for Lee Cooper jeans, which became very popular in 1979, just before he found fame with 'Are Friends Electric?'.

I remember seeing this ad at the time and there was just something about Gary's voice that grabbed me, then I heard AFE and everything changed for me!

The Damned did a send up of Gary Numan very early (1979?) , they recorded a John Peel session and did a medley of known songs , this snippet was entitled “Gay Bars” …. Largely based on the “Cars” riff it also dipped into the “Don’t be a Dummy” song towards the end …it’s only about 90 seconds long. In this age they would never be able to get away with it but at the time it was a bit of fun
