What a surprise he's using the same backing he's used since the Exile tour (1997) which is in itself an amended version of the 1993 Dream Corrosion tour live set backing including the drums. His Vocals sound dreadful
It's his decision to have his sound man mix his vocals lower than anyone you can think of. It's every show. Additionally, the effects he employs to sound larger than life make it impossible to make out his lyrics. Similar heavy rock bands like Garbage manage to be heavy yet you can still hear every word and get the whole experience cause the lyrics certainly count for something! That said, I do love his lead singer schtick in his sixties, it's inspiring. But you're right, the mix sucks but it's definitely his choice. Guitars also get lost.
