Gary Numan - My Last Day

This is the perfect ending track on an album. The instrumental bit from 3:00 to the end just hits HARD for some reason. It's SO good. That piano, that percussion, that SYNTH! Every time I play the vinyl, I keep saying "no, don't end yet, no, you have to keep going..." Afterward, I would often play it again when this was his most recent release. But now I can follow it up with Savage, and it's just SO cool.

He 🎤 sings from his heart, the pain of losing children he really desired, in a Prayer for the Unborn, and Little InVitro, trust me, and now that he has children, he is singing about HIS life ending. AMAZING SOUL, AMAZING SONG. LOVE ❤️ YOU GARY

Gary has this very soft, relaxing, kind, safe, "You go to bed, I´ll sing you to sleep" kinda voice and I love it!!!!!!!

When the instrumental starts at around 3 minutes, its so powerful, so emotional, it makes you wanna cry.

Having newly rediscovered Gary’s music by chance on Spotify I am amazed at how good his music is!! He has not been picked up by the main stream and I think that is what makes his music so incredible to listen to now!!

I like the calmer compositions of this album and The Fury so much. They have such an austere and melancholy atmosphere with a truly lush and brilliant sound in textures and harmonies, and strangely intimate and humanizing for an artist so linked to a "distant android" character..

Man... Even without that intro and lyrics, that instrumental piece tells a story all on its own. It's rare that I can listen to a song (or portion) without lyrics that evokes such impactful power. This will always be a masterpiece in my opinion.

It's Father's Day today, and my dad passed away just over two years ago - and, courtesy of this song, it just hit me like a ton of bricks.

I believe my Dad must have been one of the top ten Gary Numan fans ever, was beyond obsessed haha we went to see multiple times when I was younger, since he passed this song just feels almost like a message he left behind for me, my brother and sister it just gives me such a powerful emotion i cant describe every lyric and instrumental.

I've been a fan of Gary's from 1977- to present very gifted artist.

The whole album is hauntingly beautiful ! I enjoyed Gary’s music ever since 1981.

I am not a Numan super-fan, not even close, but I absolutely respect the man who can still produce music of this quality, some 40 years after first finding fame! Gary's genius is holding on to a unique persona and sound - the mark of all the great artists. It was a pleasure to stumble upon the BBC documentary from 2014(?) the other week, where I heard this great song. Long live Gary Numan!

Love the use of contrary motion between the melody lines & bass in the instrumental portion. Gary is broadening his horizons and I'm a fan of this record album. Depth of contrast is great!

This song leaves me a feeling that I can not understand, I like much yet.

My husband and I were talking about good funeral songs and this was the only thing I could think of. I walked down the aisle to the piano version of Down In The Park at our wedding, so it seems fitting I either come or go out of the funeral to Gary Numan

This man is a wonderful artist, I have monitored his music for many years now, he always surprises me.

Adding to the great haunting ballads Gary Numan has constructed across a 40+ year career. Beautiful song, probably my favorite on Splinter.

This is the most moving song that I have ever heard. Gary, you just keep getting better and better, and better! You are INCREDIBLE!!!

Whoever is making gary numans creative decisions these days is a genius, and I say that just incase it isn't him. I instantl loved this tune. At first listen this reminded me of a c64 sid tune from back in the 80s. It was usually the case that c64 sid writers tried to emanate the headlining synth artists and copy their tunes (jean michel jarre etc), so that's what I thought would have happened - and I could see this tune having been a big hit in the 80s. Then I noticed it was from 2013, and so that theory went out the window...but then it was replaced with a thought of how can still emit creative genius like this 35 years later?!? Its a wonderful song in any case.

Followed Numan from the very first time I heard Are friends electric? Back in 79? I remember having a tear in my eye, when he performed this on the tour at Rock City Notts. Top bloke Numan is.

I've been a fan for a long time. Saw him on the Telekon tour in 1980. That being said, this song is possibly my favorite thing he's ever done. Considering in a couple of years it will mark 40 years in the business for Gary, that's saying something. How many artists stay relevant that long?

It is a beautiful song which if I remember correctly he wrote about a very close friend of his and his family who was diagnosed with a really bad illness, usually terminal, I think the lady in question actually was lucky enough to survive, hopefully. this song still bring a tear to my eye though

Album graphic for this is absolutely brilliant. Firstly, its instantly recongisable as him - nearly like a caricature. Secondly, its a wonderfully self mocking image. Its done in the style of one of those old photos that we are only left to imagine what it was like living 120 years ago. Very effective - but you're not dead yet Mr Numan :)

I was 45 when I had my daughter and I've always had that nagging feeling that I wont have long enough being her father this song captures those feelings perfectly .
