Correction, he regained everything. Which is a very rare trait in music business. In my own personal knowledge only 3 have succeeded in that. Gary Numan, The Mission UK and a French band called Indochine. .
@@dorientjewoller113 Me and my son are into Gary; Me and my wife are into The Mission; My wife (French) is into Indochine. We have the full set here :D
MOST artists from the 1980's could never aspire to live up to this level of genius. His best music has happened over the past 20 years, and that was when he was already about 20 years in the biz (as a success)! The darker side of Gary is fantastic.
Absolutely banging live. Loved every minute of intruder tour at Sheffield & rebellion at Blackpool. Now I've got numan fever & need a fix so bad... roll on the next UK tour.
Put your hate in a box See how it bleeds for you I've watched you take your life and tear it apart. Put your pain in a box I'll send it back to you What have you become? A shadow of a man. Do you fall like rain on the crying? Cold and alone like the bitter and dying Do you fall like dust on a ruin? Empty and dead like the life you are loosing Put your lies in a box How have they worked for you? Did they win you back the things that you lost? Put your shame in a box How could you be so wrong? You sit there broken and the world moves on How does it feel? I'll spare a little thought for "The Crow" How does it feel? Living in the black of your soul How does it feel? Like a beggar out in the cold How does it feel? With nothing but the truth left untold Do you fall like tears on an ocean? Drowning in rage like a poisoned emotion Do you fall like a fading desire? Lost and unloved - a forgotten "messiah" Do you fall like rain on the crying? Cold and alone like the bitter and dying Do you fall like dust on a ruin? Empty and dead like the life you are loosing
I think Gary's brief appearance with NIN (instead of touring with them) made it all the more special. As a 50yo who grew up listening to Numan (bought Pleasure Principle on vinyl back in the day) - I loved seeing Gary and Trent together on Cars...a one-time special event.
Voltaire said that "nothing can withstand the onslaught on sustained thinking"--- this is Numan: he does not give up. Constantly pushing for over 4 decades- I picked the right people to take inspiration from

***** Me too. I'm glad that I've never heard 'Cars'. I grew up on Marilyn Manson and it's odd to reach this point, through obscurity which I adore. I'm just glad that I have maturity, as I can see the metaphors for addiction in the clip. I've already collected Skinnypuppy and EBM... I'm just really glad that Numan grandfathered the music I love. He's so awesome and unique!
Yep, I have found a big ass bitchin playlist I created at iTunes. So I bought everything... just doing my part as a fan. I’m thankful he has such an excellent catalogue
@@unnecessaryfairy I have a playlist called ‘Broken’. This is one of many songs on it. Reminds me of someone close to me. Full of metaphors in the imagery & the lyrics. Spot on.
I'm having a Gary numan renaissance loved his early stuff up to telekon then I think he lost the plot now I'm listening to his recent album's which are fu--ing amazing don't know how I've missed all this !
Gary Numan should be all over Seattle Radio. But no. Its still AC/DC, Pearl Jam and (insert any grunge band from the 90s). This song is 11 years old, and would still be fresher than the stuff they are still playing.
If you check out the stuff he did from the mid 80's to the late 90's you'll understand. He almost lost his house due to the lull in popularity during that period. I think he has the perfect sound for dark wave and it's helped him to gain a new audience. I actually like it a lot and im an old fan ;)
Man, Gary's creativity never ceases to amaze me. 30 plus years and he's still out there making music. Now THAT is dedication. For a music video with a low budget, this is well made. It fits well with the bleakness of the track.
Trent was inspired by Gary... then Gary discovered NIN.... he was inspired by Trent's sound.... He became industrial and NIN became glitchy boring music... but Gary assumed the mantle. Good on him.
Been listening to this guy for four decades and this is my recent favorite. Just blowing wattage in my cottage...neighbors four blocks away can hear it!
This song is so great, but noticing its not as HD as some others not sure why, any possiblity it can be upconverted to HD? Look forward to that if not at least it still sounds great on other platforms, and this video is sick. Love Gary Numan forever, keep up the great work. Seeing all the stuff on youtube is really inspiring
Fun fact, the woman in the bathtub in this video is his wife Gemma, and the other man is his producer Ade Fenton. And apparently it's still one of Gary's favourite music videos.
Amazing song. The UK really has some talent. Big shout from the US. Loving Gary Numan and other British dark masters of music like Portishead, Scarlxrd, The Bug, Massive Attack, Tricky, BVDLVD, ALLFLAWS
David Bowie did NOT like Gary Numan. Why? Because one genius does not like a younger genius. Peace and Love....Weird Bill from Scotland...Hey, we're not all kilts and haggis and bagpipes up here.
@@maria.whiddon Hey Maria. What does XOXO mean? Try this: LET X = X+ 1. Nonsense of course mathematics, how can X be anything but itself? Think.....Peace and Love.. Weird Bill
I'll spare a little thought for "The Crow" I'll consider about the little thought I'll explore the little thought I'll excuse the little thought The old man I'll will not
Love numan but i gotta say, his diction is pretty obscure, especially the more recent material. Cant make out much of the lyrics which is a shame because he has something to say lyrically. Clearer diction would definately make his work so much better
Diction or pronunciation? The words he chooses have artistic and poetic hooks- meanings- this is like literature. It is for the listener to explore-- to find meaning from both what the author intended, and to one's own personal experience adds to the noumena. Numan has lasted because of this- his music makes you think- what did he mean? And why? What would make a person put his to music? Just my opinion, i choose to take it positively, but then i'm a dead serious fan of the guy.
If Numan and Reznor weren't pro buds I'd swear this is about Trent. It's pretty much on the dot what Timothy Leary had to say about the guy (in far more poetic terms) and arguably has a lot of lyrical callbacks that could be interpreted as a pretty scathing criticism. Now all that said I've listened to this about 40 times today alone & I'm dead certain the world is a better place for such a gorgeous piece of music existing.
I saw him live for the first time in 2017 and he played this as well as "Love Hurt Bleed" during his set. He and his band absolutely NAILED and made every single song sound as good as if not better than the album versions, although Love Hurt Bleed sounded a little bit clunky with proper drums as opposed to electronic ones, but I'm not gonna let that take anything away from the amazing time I had on the night.
Not a huge fan of people comparing GNu to NiN. Just not a true comparison and we should be comparing NiN to GNu. I GET that the genre may have crossed paths VERY momentarily. Understood. Trent is IMMENSELY talented and an AMAZING human. These are just 2 different animals. GNu has proven ABSOLUTELY SOLID for well over 45 yr, with a sabbatical here and there, yet always rad. Trent has been involved for 35+ yr and ALWAYS kills it. Great company, yet 2 different animals
I am, sadly, old enough to remember running down to what was then ' Station Records' in Keighley to buy Tubeway Army's debut album. 2022 and here I am still discovering on the back of 'Savage and Intruder' more musical gems from the maestro that is Gary Numan. Hope to see you live in Leeds.
Absolutely perfect. Gary, you will always have my attention with these amazing songs! You really give us what we want to hear. And the perfect thing about that is I don't know what to expect. There is the surprising lyric, perfect beat and raunchy keyboards and awesome singing. Captivating eyes. The music will always keep me coming back.
Thrilled to see him survive all of the criticism and setbacks. It's nice to hear music that I actually want to play out loud! The symbolism in the video is fun to diagnose
it' so NIN-sounding i actually had to check the credits for his new album to see if reznor was involved in any official capacity. well, that's not the case, but i most definitely like how inspiration goes full circle: reznor admitted many times that GN was a prime inspiration for him, now GN uses the signature NIN soundscape on very much GN songs... i love this! :)
this kind of reminds me of Husker Du/Pixies, Du did it first but then Pixies refined, and so Gary did it first, Trent refined it BUT Gary comes back better than all of the wanna be's, the original and the best
This is fantastic and vividly demonstrates his brilliant versatility. I know the camera operator that shot this - was at a disused hospital and shot entirely on DSLR cameras using stabilising rigs. Guy in Manchester edited it and what a cracking job - sells the track (and artist) so well...
It's a great location, very eerie, & love the production values. The visuals really enhance the lyrics..would love to know what the song is really about..addiction? depression? someone GN knows? himself?
Great talent and more fitting than before, still ahead of his game, always makes me think of bowie, yet not shy to experiment with influences, important to him and others, there are them that talk about it, and gary just gets on with what he does well, making people talk about his music.
Lyrically Awesome poetry of the current dystopian illusion the great deception this guy no ordinary musician lol he a futurist profit right from the start...
I just bought the record yesterday! this song blew me away, so I decided to look for it on video (to share with friends) ... to my delight, not only is there a music video - but it's totally insanely awesome too!! I love Gary
