I watched an CMT interview with George Strait, and the woman asked, how does it feel knowing Your the King of Honky Tonk? He said, Well, maybe a contributor in country, but the King of Honky Tonk Music, Is Gary Stewart. Hands down !!
Very exciting to hear how he puts so much heart into his songs. No one like him. So sad that he is gone. Sorry he suffered much heartache. Many great classics are forged from suffering.
This man was just so talented he had a unforgettable voice unique,, seeing him live was something I won’t forget!!!! He had his demons but don’t we all have them,,,
I love you Gary Stewart. You and George Jones stand our in a field of your own, except you are a great songwriter too. Your death was tragic. Your music lives through your songs.
Gary lived through a halcyon period which resulted in the release of five or six of the best honky tonk albums ever recorded and thus established himself as one of the all time greats.
I don't "like country music", but I do love some country musicians. Gary is on my Musical Mount Rushmore. Gary. Lefty. Steely Dan. Paul Williams. The Carpenters. Herb Alpert. I'm a bit all over the map, but a unique original sound is probably the common thread. I'd throw Jerry Reed up there too.
So very true...I mean if only half the great performers that knew him and played with him and the old partners of his from Ft Pierce of his would say 1-2 mins of their recollections on camera or even VO..you'd have an hour show...This really needs to happen....
A list cats behind him and he cant get them lit up. they just dont get Gary. he stompin and strainin' at the Nashville silliness and wants to bust out but they wont follow.
thats me i live in iowa gary stewart passed away long before that im still alive. i never made it a career sounds good to me we recorded that in keokuk iowa
