Wow, wow, wow, your videos that you are showing online are phenomenal. I was an aircraft mechanic for 20 years then I became a locomotive engineer for the last 16 years, now I’m retired. When it was time to replace a 30 year old furnace I thought why not just get a package AC/furnace unit. After installation, (installed by licensed personal) I opened the panels to get model numbers and serial numbers for warranties. I thought to myself what a mangled spaghetti mess of wiring, all of this just to run a furnace and air conditioner. After realizing the cost of any service call, I decided that I needed to learn how my furnace works. After two months of watching all your videos I’m able to identify what every wire does in my furnace and AC compressor unit. I know what each component does and the purpose of it. I'm still learning some troubleshooting techniques. At this point the only thing that I know that I will not even attempt to do is to, replace any component that will break the integrity of the refrigerant system. If anything needs to be braised/soldered, the cost of having that done will be close to the price of a new unit. Its better just to buy a new unit. I did take an AC course in collage for diesel mechanic in which we had to get a 608 certification. I don't know if you offer that or not, but this would be the place to learn on how to handle refrigerants Every homeowner needs to know how this equipment works, even if they're not going work on it, they still need to know how to maintain it. I can only imagine how many house fires were caused by homeowners neglecting and or being naive towards their furnace and AC units.

Watch "HVAC School" videos on refrigeration cycle and EPA 608. Fundamentals first. Expansion equals loss of heat and compression equals heat. One coil and fan distributes heat, another coil and fan distributes (loss of heat) cold. Fan speed/size, duct sizing, lineset sizing and coil sizing determines rejection of heat or (loss of heat) cold.

Thank you - Great video in explaining everything about the furnace! But I do not understand the explanation of the ground voltage drop test @52:35. Why is the check measurements are in ohms instead of volts? I think you may meant to say is that with the power on (120V), the voltage drop should zero (therefore no resistance ), but if instead the voltage reading is like 0.4 V then that means there is problem (i.e. there is unaccounted resistance somewhere)?

I have i think 3 terminals on the main gas valve, is there a way to put 24 volts to this valve to test it? ( I also tried to measure AC voltage to the flame sensor but had no luck. ) Thank you
@cardsfan-ym1bj
@cardsfan-ym1bj Год назад
Check for 24 volts at main gas valve,if you have 24 the gas valve could be bad and sticking,if you got the 24 volt at valve you could lightly tap on gas valve and see if it opens,if you dont have 24 volts at valve,the control board could be bad

Is there ANY way that a 90% natural gas furnace could be venting what smells like a faint smell of "car exhaust" or the like!? I feel like when my furnace is on blowing I can detect that. It is not all the time either. It only seems to happen when the temperature goes down to colder temps. Is it possible to have a crack or something like that in the heat exchanger or something that could cause this? Also, I feel that in the summer I can also detect something when the cooling unit is on blowing. I dont know what to think about all of it! ?
