“Welcome to engineering class! Today we are building boats out of cardboard” *3 hours later* “All right now we will test if they float” “Professor mine is floating” “Yes, yes, but can it *float* float” “Yes it can do that too” Earth was annihilated within seconds. Humankind was destined to sail the stars and colonize millions of worlds. But their fate was sealed that day. And all because of one engineering class.

I was about to make a comment with that idea in mind, but I'm glad I checked to see if it was already said. But also, we have to assume that the reasonably sized object is solid with that density, otherwise we'd have a situation like what was mentioned in the video regarding Saturn's rocky core sinking

So could you have a habitable moon of a gas giant, enveloped by the gas giant's magnetic field? This would lead to not needing to consider a stable magnetic field for the habitable moon, unlike what you talk about with a habitable moon in your video about it. Something to think about, at least.
@grahamrich9956
@grahamrich9956 7 лет назад
Jellypox From research I've done in other places, it seems that they would get radiation from the gas giant, however less than what you'd get from the star, so you could possible have a lower magnetic field than what you'd need otherwise.

What about for industrial purposes?
@davidpo5517
@davidpo5517 8 лет назад
***** Diamonds aren't just beautiful, they're extremely useful. Besides, value is a made up concept. Supply>demand actually solves that problem for you. There's already a demand for diamond, and the industrialization of space would increase that demand exponentially. Now imagine that the only place you can buy this essential carbon-based material for any advanced industrial culture is this one company. And yes, we can make artificial diamonds, but that requires time, a lot of money, and lots of raw materials.
@aSStronaut111
@aSStronaut111 8 лет назад
If we had access to that much diamonds, diamonds would be about as valuable as dirt. However I can see diamond sellers creating fake demand by saying everyone MUST buy mansions made of diamond when getting married to prove their love for their woman, just like they did when large deposits of diamonds were found at the end of the 19th century, effectively making diamonds worthless. Fun fact: Before this fake idea of diamond engagement rings came about, expensive engagement rings were only bought by members of the aristocracy like kings or rich businessmen. Look it up, google "De Beers fake demand".

When people say "Saturn could float in a body of water", they don't mean it literally in every sense of the setting up the situation. They just mean that Saturn's overall density is less than the overall density of water, so a scale model of Saturn made out of a material matching its density would float in water.

THIS, was awesome. you have a new sub. I already visited your channel after you collaborated with Xindaf, but wasn't really interested because I thought you only make videos about language. (which I only watch, bc I think I have to to balance all the videos about physics and math)

Interesting video, but the stop motion is too choppy - it strains the eyes. Try adding a few frames in the future.

I wasn't aware - didn't look at the date. I just stumbled upon the video, and I found it really interesting - the comment was meant purely as constructive feedback. Nothing malicious or overly critical. I'm prone to migraines, you see, so choppiness is a bit of a problem for me. I will check out his newer stuff. Thank you for the heads up.

quick questen: what would happen if a planet in our system, say mars or saturn, would disappear. Would the be consequences for earth?
@Artifexian
@Artifexian 9 лет назад
Errm, off the top of my head...i don't know. Hmmm well, if any planet suddenly disappeared any moons would stop orbiting in ellipses and fly off into space in a straight line tangential to last their last orbital position, if that makes sense. So ye, bombardment might be thing. Also if jupiter disappear the greek and trojans asteroids would go ballistic....other than that I'm not sure. Obviously gravitational interactions would be affected. To what extent? I can't put numbers on that.
@KrotowX
@KrotowX 8 лет назад
+TheHorreK2 Depends from trajectories of satellites of disappeared planets, asteroids and other planets whose obviously will change their existing orbits because gravity will rearrange all objects in our system to new stable orbits. Some objects inevitably will hit others in process. The consequences for us are depending from trajectories of objects which will fly to our side and from speed and size of them.
@GraveUypo
@GraveUypo 8 лет назад
+Artifexian you could always put that in a simulator :P real world accuracy doesn't matter that much in this case so a simple setup on universe sandbox would do it. i might try it later.

I thought this video was going to be about creating mythology based on what people on your planet could see in the sky. You should do a video on that because it'll be really cool. Also tie in how all of our celestial bodies are named after deities.

I have to say great video, but Saturn floating on water can happen but of course some thing would have to change. People are basically saying if Saturn's core stayed in place and the gas did too, it would float.
