Killing time in between work and sleep I thought I would film Switching Gas Procedure which is a relatively easy but IMHO greatly underestimated skill. I remember trying to find something on YT months ago that would be simply sidemount oriented. There was quite a few good BM vids with gas switching but SM stuff was not easy to track down. The following is inspired by UTD’s Andrew Georgitsis who I have a great respect for and I need to thank my friend Mike van Splunteren who helped me develop the whole skill.
Please notice that different organizations may advocate different approaches to gas switching and the procedures may involve subtle discrepancies but the idea is still the same: MAKE SURE YOU AND YOUR TEAM ARE 100% SURE YOU ARE ABOUT TO BREATHE FROM THE PROPER CYLINDER!
Therefore, Left Hand never leaves the valve/ cylinder during the identification process. And you need to develop both; team/buddy awareness and proper buoyancy technique so that you stay levelled at the desired depth.
As mentioned above this is the way I practice it but I do understand there are other good or even better ways.
