Inertia for me, used my Dad's Benelli years back, it was absolutely fantastic. Never had a cycling issue. Used to double tap at targets, so easy. The kick was not even an issue. Thank you for the video, great explanation!!!
I dont mean to be off topic but does someone know of a method to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Donald Jett I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I have a akkar altay and it cycle every thing i put in it, it is a beast cleaning wise i clean it every 2/3 weeks lightly and then maybe after a season i clean it internaly and always cycled from the low low loads to the heavy loads
i personally hate gas operated shotguns because of its extremely annoying cleaning process and bad weight balance. That's the reason i sold one. Now I'm a Stoeger m3k owner and i stand for inertia driven shotguns for IPSC. Nice video! Greetings from Russia!
What if the spring tension on the bolt spring of an inertia operated shotgun was lowered, so that it could cycle properly less powerful rounds and/or shoot it looselly held to the shoulder allowing the entire mass of the gun to move backwards (hence not providing the bolt enough strength to travel the distance it is supposed inside the gun in order to extract the spent case and/or feed a new one into the chamber). Is there a risk for some of the burning gunpowder from the exploding cartridge to escape through the ejection port and land on top of my face, clothes, flammable paperwork, or clean floor; If so how damaging could it be for the shotgun. Thank you I appreciate any clarity you could shine on that matter and great video by the way.
Then you'd start running into feeding issues where shells hang up going into the chamber. These manufacturers have the spring tension set to the optimal tension so that they can reliabily cycle as many different loads as possible.
I'm from a 3rd world country. Looking to buy a baikaal MP 153 (gas gun) or maybe baikaal MP 156 (inertia). I'll be hunting birds. But like maximum 20-50 shots/year . Which would you recommend.
I doubt he said those two examples represented all semiautomatic shotguns. How do you qualify or quantify that the Argo is [more] reliable than the Stoeger. No all semiautomatic shotguns are designed for the type of gun games that the M3k and 1301 were designed for.
The shot load is how much shot is in the cartridge and the shot size. The load is measured in grammes or ounces and refers to the total weight of the shot.
You wouldn't want to use a 50 inch shotgun for CQB as you wouldn't want to use a typical home defense shotgun for a shotgun match with 5 stages, and up to 25 shells per stage. For dynamic gun games like a TAC-Ops match, a typical home defense pump action shotgun (low capacity and not choke capable) is like bringing a single shot .22 to a long range rifle match. It's not that the 22 is a terrible weapon, it's that it's not suited for this particular application.
Our World Champion Jarkko Laukia says that Beretta needs cleaning after 5000 rounds and I tend to agree. I have cleaned my Beretta 1301 Comp only twice so far. ;)
Excellent. My beretta semi auto would act up after 125 rounds. My gun was highly maintained and was still very tempermental. Used high quality ammo. Didn't matter. Nice job.
Real solid and honest details. Too many cover up and gloss over the brutal facts. Would add gas gun performance depends on the quality. Some new models are not as well made as older models-Remington 1100 being a prime example.
Jesse Smith am example that they aren’t made as great as they were a long time ago. Meaning they are not “bad quality”, but not as good as they used to be
1100 is tough to beat. I have both the 2 3/4 and 3" versions. Never had any hiccups in either. Most of the time they just sit in my safe, but I used my 2 3/4 for dove earlier this year. Reminds me of the old days. Felt good.
I'm getting my first ever simi auto shotgun and I am excited. I've only owned 12 gauge and I am moving on to a 20 ga simi auto. I am hoping the Stoeger M3020 has less recoil for me. I am a small game hunter who loves light recoil weapons
I moved to gas guns a few years back, faster shot to shot times because of the reduced felt recoil. If you want a gas gun that shoots anything get one that uses the Benelli M4 gas system. This twin piston system is very reliable, needs far less cleaning than a traditional gas system. Used in Benelli M4, Remington Versamax and Turkish Sulans.
My first gun was a 1972 Remington 1100 12 ga. My husband was a VietNam vet & picked it out for me. He did very good. An inertia kicks like a mule. I’ve shot skeet with this, can shoot slugs. I still have it & as a woman it’s the only shotgun for me. Never ever a problem with this gun & it doesn’t require any special attention. I’ve had a gunsmith check it only bc of age, it’s in top shape. Remington doesn’t let you down.
Inertia shotguns only have feeding issues when u feed them light loads. I’ve shot plenty of slugs and turkey loads with out shouldering properly and no issues with heavy loads
Which semi-automatic hunting rifle is better in terms of sturdiness and fewer malfunctions of the gas system or the inertia system? I would like a reply
I personally prefer gas guns. I hunt waterfowl in a cold climate and want my gun to cycle reliably if I wear thick clothing. I also like having faster follow up shots. Yes they might have more trouble cycling the light target loads but it's not hard or expensive to find shells with heavier loads.
When you state that you need to clean it often, how many "average" rounds are you talking between cleanings? Not competition clean, but just clean enough for fully expected operational proficiency? Thanks do much, cheers
I mean 3000 to 5000 rnds a season with no cleanings ...amd then had other ones that may only run 250 to 300 rnds before starting to have issues....so really it depends.... Best advice I can give would be to clean regularly....if ur not clear regularly just shot it till it gets sluggish amd u start haveing issues then clean it
Beretta a 400 Its always normal to have an issue with cartidgies with this gun 😂 Try an older beretta 300,301,302,303,304,390 And then you will not have any issue
There are zero drawbacks regarding the Stoeger. Firing the shotgun while not properly shouldered, aka bad marksmanship, will get you DQd (disqualified) from the match. Be marksman at all times. Agreed, the M3K doesn't get dirty. Swab the barrel every few hundred rounds and carry on.
This is an awesome video. I was looking for my first shotgun and came across a compact Weatherby 20 gauge but had never heard of a gas shotgun before. Now I know that that's NOT what I want! Thank you!!
I own a weatherby sa08 in that same configuration and haven't had a problem with it. If reliability is an issue, a good pump shotgun will serve you well.
I have a stoeger m2000 self defense and I love it. I have heard people complain about it not cycling but I have never had problems even with birdshot. I just wish it held 6 or 7 shells and not only 5. Either way it’s a great gun.
My Stoeger M3500 will cycle rounds my Browning Maxus won't. Both will shoot light loads through heavy. However, the Maxus messes up more with the 3 1/2 inch shells. Very disappointing when you get one shot and have to clear the jam. The Stoeger doesn't do that. Use a stock weight on the Stoeger, and cycling issues go to the wayside.
Shot my Beretta a400 Xtreme plus this weekend ran hundreds of rounds through it of all different kinds from high brass to low brass to targets to duck rounds never had one issue
I own a beretta a350 with the blink has system and a Benelli M2 with THE inertia system. I do not shoot any competitions with either of them but I do waterfowl hunt and shoot sporting clays and can honestly say that the blink has system can go 100’s if not into the 1000’s of round without cleaning and no cycling issue and I’m a ride it hard put away wet kind of guy with me gear. The M2 same thing. Biggest difference between the 2 is felt recoil. Gas gun shoots softer inertia fires every round under the sun but has a little more pop in the stock. The beretta needs 1200fps or more to cycle perfectly which is fine by me. Great video! Cheers from Canada eh 🍻🇨🇦🤘
Gday mate Love the video. Could you help if you can tell me how the stoeger M3000 inertia driven operates compared to the Stoeger m3000 straight pull. I know well how gas operated shotguns work but the difference between inertia and straightpull eludes me. Regards
Excellent presentation, I have a couple auto-5’s Silver Hunter ( which is about the worst shotgun I have owned), a Bennelli auto ie (all 12Ga’s and I have always found the Browning Auto Lt 5 has less recoil than my gas shotguns !ie( just the opposite of your conclusion). My thinking is the inertia recoil brake on the tube accounts for some of the recoil taken out ie ( with the recoil brake brass action-ring ). If the rings are set properly for the right load. 🤔😃 It has been my experience the gas guns have a faster and consistently harsher kick than the inertial guns ie (Auto-5 Lt 12Ga) 🥴
Great job. I thought benelli could produce a much higher quality semiauto shotgun but I was WRONG! My semi auto beretta was that good either. Recommend your favorite recoil operated shot gun.
That just means it runs naturally cleaner and requires less cleaning and standard maintenance. So you can get of significant more shots off with the gun before it fouls beyond functioning reliably. Same goes for gas piston guns
I think that explanation was incorrect, the term inertia means to stay at rest which in an inertia gun, the bolt body try’s to stay at rest due to its mass, the gun needs to move rearwards from the recoil which pushes back the rotating bolt face, as the bolt face moves rearwards towards the bolt body which is trying to stay at rest due to its inertia, it compresses a spring inside the bolt body, the geometry of the bolt face causes it to rotate and unlock itself from the breach as it moves rearwards, once it’s unlocked from the breach and the spring is compressed, the energy in the spring is released and pushes the bolt rearwards, this is the secondary recoil Callum mentioned, moving rearwards it re-cocks the trigger, the spring under the fore grip then pushes the bolt back to the battery position. A bit long winded, but as far as I can see, the inertia shotgun needs to recoil freely to work.
I didnt understand why on 3:28 the gun fails when it can move farther. The answer is because to cycle properly the carrier has to have enough speed relative to the gun, and if the gun is free to move back, it catches up to the carrier. So the gun has to be able to recoil back for 4mm (0.16 inches) to compress the carrier spring. Then the spring will push the carrier back to press the cam track in the carrier against the cam lug on the bolt to unlock it, then extraction happens. After the gun traveled this 4mm it has to stop, so the carrier has enough speed relative to the gun. Theres good animation, search for "benelli inertia shotgun".
I have a gas gun: mossberg 930 but the range I go to only allows 28g loads so far I have found it not be to picky but it does have loading issues, do you have any advice to sort this please?
Is the Steoger available with a 28 inch barrel in the M3K blue is the only one selling it in the south and I'm just about to put on for my FAC shot one in NZ and there a great gun
It’s not about cleaning it every time you shoot, it’s about not needed cleaning mid match. Some competitions can require 100’s of rounds in a day, if the gun begins to malfunction before you get home you’re going to throw the match.
@@EnglishShooting for the ultraweak loads, the trick is to remove the friction ring. i made a brass adapter ring without friction on the lathe. this old guns are not made to shoot todays weak sporting loads, but with this mod, auto 5s, bredas and al48 cycle the ceapest low brass ammo you can buy. so this old shotguns in 12-2/3/4 can shoot every ammo from 24-40 grams. only drawback, you cant switch between hot and weak loads without adjusting your shotgun.
I have a Benelli M1 super 90 (Inertia system), and I found it had issues only with some types of ammo (Low powered trap/skeet shells), but strangely only when I really held it hard against my shoulder. It acted better even with bad ammo when it had some slack, and then when it bumped on my shoulder it actually caused it to cycle correctly. I guess it's not possible to generalize, and every rifle is unique (Even the same brand/model acts differently depending on lots of factors).
@@fenheadfarm3262 If you've never had a problem with a box fed, that tells me you don't shoot it enough, or at a competitive pace. OR, your box fed was gun smith'd to run right out of the box. My M3k runs. Eats everything shes fed and and never complains.
For dynamic gun games like a TAC-Ops match where each stage can be up to 25 shells, a typical home defense pump action shotgun (low capacity and not choke capable) is like bringing a single shot 22 to a long range rifle match. It's not that the 22 is a terrible weapon, it's that it no suited for this particular application.
great comparison video, Ive been looking at Stoeger for an inexpensive Benelli option. I'm surprised about how finicky the beretta gas driven was though. My early 90's Remington 1100 will run anything through it and I havent cleaned it in two season. Remington is garbage now unfortunately but wanted to hear better from the Beretta.
My beretta 1301 comp shown here has run ammo as low as 950fps and round counts into 500 without cleaning with “zero” issues. I like the comp so much I sold my benelli M4 after I bought the 1301 tactical which is also a beast
@@EnglishShooting shame. I don't live in UK so i live under different rules but your channel really helped educate me on gun ownership. Shame the authorises have gone after the teacher. I hope you get them back need to let police know that you want to work with them and not against them. So maybe a heads up warning. Instead of a revoke of guns might be adequate as your promoting legal shooting to allot of people. Your not iust 1 person applying for a licence. Need the firearms officers to monitor your posts and have them tell you to take something down that might effect your ownership or if it is that inappropriate they should ask you to take down anyway. Rather see a post removed for legal reasons than have your licenses takeb away. The truth is that you don't have to make these videos and if you didnt you would still have your licences. The objective is the get people into the sport and educate which no one else is doing. Looks like you have been thrown under a bus Shame i hope the police can work with you rarther than against the person who has same objectiveals as them No one in the legal shooting community wants to see guns purchased for illagl activity. Defears the objective in purchasing a legal firearm Thanks
