Day 19, Trans Labrador and East Coast Motorcycle Adventure
Today we ride from Gaspésie Nation Park along a gravel road to Gaspe and Perce, Quebec. Both towns are spectacular and I am in love with them both!
We camped at the breathtaking Forillon National Park.
Today was simply AMAZING!
We started with a short backtrack along the amazing Route 299 to the Route du Lac St. Anne. This is a challenging gravel road that coated us with dust every time a logging truck passed. We travelled about 75km on that road to the absolutely depressing Murdochville.
Murdochville is a mining town without a mine, and it is as close to a ghost town as you will get. The few people who are left there seemed suspicious of outsiders and that gave a weird vibe. I was happy to leave that eye sore behind us. We then travelled along Route 198 to Gaspé and that has the opposite vibe. It is pretty and welcoming and has a great little street of restaurants and cafes. We gorged ourselves at Brise Bise. I had shrimp poutine with a seafood chowder sauce in
place of the regular gravy. Amazing Then we headed south along the coast to Percé. The ride down was simply spectacular. Views of the ocean from sea level and from 600 metre mountains all the way down. The last climb over the mountain to Percé was as cool as the mountains
in Cape Breton. Amazing.
I absolutely love beach towns and Percé may be the cutest and happiest little beach town anywhere. I want to go back. AMAZING x 2.
On the way back, Spike lead us through an unused, and somewhat overgrown pass down the inland side of the mountain and it too was amazing.
We then headed north to Forillon National Park where we are spending the night. The ride from the park runs along the shoreline and rises and falls with the mountains. At one point we travelled through a rock cut and you had a view of the valley below and mountains ahead. It was like the rock cut was the gateway to beauty. Amazing ×10.
The park itself it breathtaking and even the ride from registration centre to the campsite was beautiful.
Tomorrow, we round the top of the Gaspé Peninsula and head west for the rest of the trip. Our plan is to ride to Trois Pistoles tomorrow.
