Dorsiflexion(DF)- is when we flex ankle toward up of the body (toes goes up). So in this test we check if DF range of motion is greater in flexed (bend) knee versus extended (straight leg). If that so, it would indicate short Gastrocnemicus, also possibly affecting the function of the knee. See FMS test for example. Sometime people are not able to perform full squat due to the limitation in ankle joint. Provided with triangle wedge or something under their heels can go lower performing squat.
