Gate: *Opens in Indonesia* Indonesian: People, prepare your gear, Bamboo spear, and anything that you can use as a weapon! We are once again taking out these morons like our ancestor did againts portugese...
According to what I understand (from reading the manga), they had spies bringing back information (and people) about Earth, weeks, even MONTHS before this attack, and someone STILL decided to launch the attack.
The best part is later in the show when the Princess of the other world's Empire asks completely dumbfounded why Japan was attacking them. Like they had completely forgotten about the army they sent to butcher whoever they found on the other side of the gate.
then NRA new logo . mediaval invasion a good reason to buy 20 ar-15's 200 high cap mags and 20000 rounds at the next gun show, (20% discount for every enemy helmet)
Japan: Civilians are attacked by rampaging primitives before the police and military comes in to diffuse the situation USA: Primitives are attacked by rampaging Florida men before the police and military comes in and joins the fun.
arab guy speaks arab but in the latter part he says people in the USA view Japanese people as primitives (assuming the anime has the setting of Japan in some alternate timeline or whatever)
Apa Dong no where in the comment does it say anything about imperials, is there some information relating to the anime that is a prerequisite I am unaware of? Also I was Juxtaposing the former and latter part of his comment, assuming that USA and japan was referencing the viewer. The way I interpreted his comment was that he was saying in Japan this is viewed as civilians getting attacked by monsters until the military arrives to help and in the USA viewership sees this as primitives (Japanese civilians, assuming the anime has the setting of Japan) getting attacked by rampaging Florida men (the monsters) until the military comes in to join the fun (military comes in to help)
What I love about this anime is that in any other show, the police and military would be immediately over powered and only the hero can save the day with some magical stone or by defeating the main bad guy. here in this anime? the military seriously cleans house as they would for real Seriously, our modern weapons, tech and training are not given their due credit. we've come a long way since swords and shields. I've seen weapons that would shred men without armor to literal pieces. it's nice to finally see a gun win in a sword match without plot armor getting in the way
Yeah, in the original novel it took several days and 3 weeks to fully capture everyone because they kept pouring through the Gate and were hidding in buildings and stuff, the LN and Manga say it was days and the anime presents it as a mere hours.
Mass callout made to anyone who is into full contact armoured combat to get your one chance to engage in live action combat entirely legally we with fully sharpened blades and various medieval arms like warhammers and maces.
Lets see, the most powerful and advanced military on Earth, with the largest air force and navy with a police force that are more equipped than entire countries as well as a batshit crazy and well armed population... Lets just say, the US is the last place you want to piss off
What you expect when watching for the first time: "This will probably play out in our world where modern armies fight against the medieval ones" How it turned out: "Damn, they really fucked up didn't they?"
"I fear all we have done is to awaken a *sleeping giant* and fill him with a terrible resolve" The emperor thought from the other side of the gate once he lost all his army.....
they got lucky they didnt wake up uncle sam , cause he was going to spread democracy . without the geneva protocols ....... and without any un or human right aggrements if you know what i mean... ;-) or worst The Russian Bear ,,,,,,,
@@SmileyGbox I know - we are badassess with the right equipment. Or even outdated ones North koreans would blow them up with nukes freely without international condemnations. Chineese are well... Chineese. They will do chineese things.
I used to feel bad watching them absolutely get steamrolled and massacred, but seeing how they invaded and killed the citizens first: "Well, well well, if it isn't the consequences of your actions"
"Aye, once all these motherfuckers dead or ran away, we gunna hide that gate somehow so we get all that magic shit will be all ours. Not even the military would be able to stop us then." -An ex-gang leader, now military dictator
If they landed on the outskirts (like some backwater imperial world) chances are they'd conquer it...albeit very momentarily before guardsmen reinforcements or some random ork band come in.
I remembered watching the 1st episode. I thought that Itami was just your average otaku shut-in protagonist. Little did I know that he's in the military, he's a Ranger and a SF!
I think the hidden depths were pretty well revealed when with little hesitation he steps in front of the rampaging dude who just fells off a dragon, hip tosses his armoured ass, gets him in a chokehold, picks up the guys own blade and kills him.
Gate opening on Japan: Medieval armies enters and slaughters civilian population. Japan SDF: ALLOW ME TO RETORT Gate opening on US: Medieval armies enters and gets slaughter by crazy weaponized civilians. USAF nuke bombers: ALLOW ME TO RETORT Gate opening somewhere on the EU: Medieval armies enters, gets bought and were sent back to attack their own nation.
Gate opening in China: Medieval armies enters. End result is anything that wasn't human was eaten as the next meal of the civilians. 30,000 civilians eaten alive.
In a episode the US actually sends CIA agents to capture some of the people from the medieval world in a houe they are staying whit the main characther but china and russia do that too and theres a fight and then they all get killed by a demigod girl from the other world whit just a sword or smth seriously the anime is only good for the first few episodes.
Yep, all too often we see helicopters destroyed by spears, tanks destroyed by flaming arrows, and medieval soldiers dodging bullets by moving left to right or blocking them with shields. It's generally nice to just see a piece of media where we are competent, and military equipment is shown to the full destructive potential it has.
only the first few episodes are good, the rest of the show dissolves into just the main characther and the anime girls and one of them even tries to do stuff whit him if you know what i mean
There's a book series called the refuge series is like gate but instead of japan is Europe, and from the reviews i read is a little bit more realistic than gate...
Russia? Maybe. The US? Hell no. Even when we are royally pissed off, we still show a ton of restraint. Just look at when Bin Laden was killed. We could have very easily just dropped a Bunker Buster on his head and been done with it, even if it led to some collateral damage in the process (and in the aftermath of 9/11, it's very unlikely that we would have faced any political or diplomatic repercussions for it either, as pretty much every modern nation was outraged and horrified by 9/11). Instead, we sent in Seal Team 6 for a much more precise and surgical strike, which kept any potential collateral damage to a bare minimum. If that Gate had opened somewhere in the US, we would likely have very quickly shut down the initial invasion due to our populace being the most well-armed civilian populace in the world (hell, local police forces would probably have been sufficient to deal with everything except perhaps for the Dragon[s]....and that's not even considering the fact that it's very likely even criminal organizations would have helped to fight off such an invasion!), and then once the military arrived it would very quickly mop up any remaining invaders, and then not long after that we would have captured and fortified the other side of the Gate and forced the Empire to the negotiating table and brought an end to hostilities really damn fast, while still allowing the Empire to retain the vast majority of their autonomy.
*we did not know that the defenders had tamed the elements and were ready to turn them against us. The fire and thunder were monstrous, and the flying beetles they rode in screamed with their fury. I fear that we have misjudged this land.*
1:04 Yoji Itami is something different alright emotionless dispatching the enemy soldier with a knife to the throat and later during the aftermath of the earthquake/shake we even get to see his true self shine through the cracks in his Otaku - persona when he orders live fire against prince Zorzal El Caesar and escorts after realizing he has treated one of the missing citizens as a lowly slave good for nothing but physical entertainment.
Imagine if the gate opened in Spain during the 16th-17th century, the Spaniards wouldn’t need to pour resources to conquer the Americas, or look for El Dorado and other lost cities, they can just dispatch conquistadores over into this New World to colonize it, maybe have Hernan Cortez or Francisco Pizarro lead the expedition
I mean, imagine if you were shopping at the mall and all of a sudden an army of orcs, goblins, and dudes in Roman armor start pouring into the food court and killing everyone. Most people would be trying to process what the hell just happened lol
*SPOILERS* It was revealed in the sequel novel GATE JSDF Weigh Anchor that the Saderan Empire has very poorly constructed naval ships even by medieval standards, thus Emperor Molt thought that it was easier to just attack and take slaves from whichever world that's on the Gate rather than make risky expeditions, and with the Empire 600 years undefeated they, in their delusions thought they can do whatever they want. *Bonus* There are plenty more land and countries other than Falmart, which much to Pina's shock and horror is more technically advance than them and capable of more potent magic.
Damn, imagine being a Mongol-sized Empire who for generations built itself of conquests to achieve almost complete dominion over their continent. Then suddenly all of your hard labour goes to the garbage bin because some deity decided that the status quo was boring and wanted to spice things up by opening an interdimensional gate leading to a parallel world. You initiate a conflict against a vastly superior foe, until the near-annihilation of your Armies. The Empire fractures, it enters a state of decline, and you lose countless regions due to the switch in allegiances along the way. Then it is revealed that your maritime force projection is near to none due to your Navy's warships being utter garbage compared to others. Rival foreign polities have better technologies than yours. It has got to hit the morale and ego pretty badly of some of the Aristocracy and Citizens of said Empire.
@@Michael-di7bg Spot on analysis man. The Saderan Empire thought itself to be invincible and unstoppable, only for reality to slap them in the face and when they are down... Other nations started attacking with magic , flintlock pistols, and early gunpowder cannons.
Agreed, No matter the size and how powerful you think you army is, you don't just attack first and see the response. It may be a response that will be unrecoverable to make amends with. I don't think my sentence makes sense, whatever I think you'll get my point.
Now imagine this Show without the happy ending, where the conflict just kept on spiraling out of control. The final scene would be the gate slowly flickering and closing, and the camera backing out if it. In the distance, you see a giant mushroom cloud form.
@chucks233 idk if the manga and anime have the same stopping point, but so far, the anime's final scene is Princess Pina being made Empress, Crown Prince Zozal going into exile, with some JSF disguised and tagging along, and most of Itami's friends and colleagues getting hooked up with Speacial Region locals and Itami himself back in Japan, getting a new assignment/being carted away just in time to miss another anime convention, with no real news since on wether a follow up season is being worked on at all. Hence, The Happy Ending.
Those primitive and medieval soldiers killed at least 50 civilians and enslaved the rest, and then, the JSDF retaliated by wiping out at least 60,000 of their soldiers... seems legit and realistic
This is kinda funny. Just imagine if they showed up in the United States- they wouldn’t even need the national guard. All the weapons owned by civilians would be more than enough.
You can actually do recreate this in Rise of Nations with 1 player at the minimum level using medieval weapons and the other at top level using modern weapons.
Everybody's talking about how fucked the imperials would be if they invaded the good old US of A, but have you considered the hell they'd go through if they invaded North Korea.
I loved this anime back then. With all these OP shounen protag with harem in some generic fantasy setting and fanservice, and also as a dude who appreciates modern tech, there's something charming seeing a show on how our reality and current level of tech would realistically and mercilessly deal something like a fantasy army from another world.
That's pretty much what happened during medieval times. you raid a place kill (or rape) anything that's not with you raid everything valuable take the survivers as prisoner's and then sell them as slaves. And that's the kind of place these soldiers come from. The Empire was a (in my opinion) mix of Nazi Germany and Rome with expansionist and considering their human population as superior their national policy.
Siddhesh kakade Just rome i think, because with germany they would have better stuff, and the romans already had the superiority (not latin, barbarian)
Tbh this anime is the only anime that will gain a lot of success if it get Hollywood adaptation. But if they really going into that, I'm 10000% sure they are not only going to change the protagonist from JSDF to the US Army, but they will make "a little"change on Rory's character to deal with western audience a.k.a SJWs.
@@donflamingo795 yeah, but a its the additional cost to the planes and helicopters. I think japan could refit their soldires with new guns though, they are in the top 10 strongest economies in the world.
I just finished reading a novel called the Fae Wars where this exact situation happens but across the world a d the invading armies are 10x more powerful than these guys. If your wanting a story where modern armies are faced against an overwhelming, magical enemy force then check it out.
Thanks for the recommendation! I'm currently into this web novel called Japan Summons / Summoning Japan where Japan of this current year gets the whole country transported to some world with varying technological gaps. (Medieval fantasy, medieval, 18th century Britain like forces, galleons vs modern ships, etc etc. WW1, and WW2)
They're lucky they opened their gate in Japan. Imagine the reaction if they opened it in somewhere like Texas. Fantasy invasion force, meet people who love guns and have no problems making road kill.
remember when they go in usa they have the strongest nuke prob everyone in usa has guns when they come out they see tanks gun gun guns more guns lets not forget they need oil
At first, I was wondering why none of the civilians were fighting back with firearms and the like... Then I realized that the anime is set in Japan and not the US.
