Mt. Doonerak is an impressive and intimidating peak nestled within the far reaches of the Brookes Range, Alaska. Join as polar-adventurer, Geoff Wilson, and his son, Kitale Wilson, venture well-above the arctic circle with the intent of climbing this looming mountain.
In search of wild places to share with one another the pair very quickly learn just how brutal Alaska can be - from lost kayaks to bear charges - the trip is full of adversities.
Reiterating that sometimes the journey is far greater than the objective.
Edited and Produced by Kitale Wilson in collaboration with 5th Element Media House.

A picture is better than a thousand words. With so many spectacular pictures, don’t understand why they still talked so much.

What a fantastic video and story! My husband and I have a goal of going to ALL 63 national parks in the United States and found this video researching Gates of the Arctic. So glad you made it out and what an incredible bonding moment with your kid.

Glad you enjoyed it! It was just us out there, so we tried really hard to get unique shots and play around with the camera angles.

excellent video and what an adventure! I went hiking with my son to Denali a couple years ago and I got a glimpse of what you mean of the solitude of Alaska. It's my dream to go back again. I had to watch your video a couple times, just loved it.

Very nice video sir! I attempted the Gates of the Arctic but the interior “marsh” muddy water and my subpar water filter unfortunately made me turn back. Seems like water is crystal clear within the Gates of the Arctic though.

Thanks Jin! It seems the water turbidity is fairly seasonal, and even though higher up in the range the water is crystal clear this gradually decreases. Always a good idea to have a trusty filter!

Great video and very informative. My first thought when you talked about flipping your kayaks a few times is that the weight distribution seems really top-heavy. You can actually see one the kayaks rocking more than I would be comfortable with. With all that unused space on the sides of the front and rear decks, I'm thinking that a pair of lightweight "luggage racks" could be built, that you could secure to the decks using the d-rings on the decks. You could then spread out your load so that everything sits lower and further out to the sides. What do you think?

For anyone watching this video and planning a similar trip here, remember it's illegal to fly a drone in a U.S. National Park without written approval from the park superintendent. Please respect the wildness the Park Service seeks to maintain if you don't have permission to fly the drone.

It’s so weird we have to have permission from whoever . Why is it illegal to film what God gave to us FOR free …….
@issacjones4237
@issacjones4237 Год назад
And if you get permission then it's not gonna disturb the national park how dumb are you
@kdarnell12
@kdarnell12 Год назад
@@issacjones4237A channel with 170 subscribers? I doubt very seriously they were able to secure permission from the very strict Park Service. But show me the permission, and prove yourself right. But since the overwhelming majority of that park is federally designated Wilderness, it’s completely illegal to fly a drone there…permission is impossible.
@issacjones4237
@issacjones4237 Год назад
@@kdarnell12 you really missed your point I'm laughing at you that the fact if they got permission that wouldn't disturb the nature like a little drone does anyway how intelligent are you
@kdarnell12
@kdarnell12 Год назад
@@issacjones4237 You know, even though you don’t seem to know what punctuation is, you’re right: we don’t know if they got permission. But you’ve motivated me to find out. So, I’m filing complaints with the FAA and NPS. If they didn’t get permission, they may lose their drone license and be banned from all National Parks. And they can thank you for motivating me.
