Hi!
No music. No talking. Just work.
If you are taking your GATEWAY NV55C PEW91 NV55C03U laptop apart be careful and wear an anti-static wrist band or use other anti-static device. If you need to change a LCD usually you don't have to take screen out of a laptop. You can leave it on a laptop and watch the last part of the video where I am taking LCD apart. If you need to change a keyboard, you don't have to take all bottom screws out. There are usually some marks, like a keyboard picture, on a case bottom. If you need to put a laptop back to work be aware of screws. They are different and you better remember or mark them somehow to insure that you will put them back in to a right place.
Some laptops I take apart first time, so don't be serious on my time and performance.
If something got broken - ooops, it's your fault.
Believe me, some parts in your laptop are already broken, you just don't see that.
This video is like insurance for your laptop. With this video and some skills you will be always sure that at least you can try to repair your laptop. If it's broken you don't have to sell it or throw it away. You can find some new or used parts somewhere and change it. It maybe will be your new job or hobby. And if it didn't worked out you still will be able to ask somebody else to fix it.
So, just watch this video and fix your laptop.
Have fun and good luck!!

The epoxy repair for the right screen hinge worked! I wasn't kidding, I did watch some of your video to figure out how to re-assemble this Gateway laptop. Two hiccups when re-assembling: 1) "mystery metal bracket" where does it go? 2) I fed the WiFi wires through the wrong hole into the battery bay; grr, I had to take out keyboard and top fascia plate. Not to bad to recover from. Mystery bracket flew out when I originally removed the screen. Watching your video was invaluable in solving where that piece went. It is the right side "tether security lock" bracket which is held down by one of the screen screws. As the right-side screen mounting posts were destroyed when this laptop was dropped, I had no clue what that part was and where it belonged in the laptop. Routing the WiFi wires was rather obvious. There are cable management channels and all I did was follow the "wire memory" from the screen to the WiFi bay. I'm typing the reply on the fixed Gateway. Everything works. Sound, touch pad, keyboard, screen, and the right-side screen hinge is no longer floppy. Now onto installing the SSD drive and re-installing Manjaro Linux. Great video. Big help in the repair!

Darn... I reassembled a NV75 and forgot to put in the 2 smallest screws... they are really tiny and there's only 2... is that bad? The computer seems to be running ok. I'm really not lucky... on my first disassembly on a acer, I broke both screen hinges and had to insert tiny bolts with nuts that when out the bottom. So cheap!!!

That thing looks a lot cleaner than the one I'm fixing for a friend. That one is filthy and caked with cigarette smoke residue.

I sometimes, not as often as I want, clean my laptop and it is also dirty. I don't smoke and I find smoke residue and the smell more disgusting than some dead cockroach.

omg I dissassembled my laptop. But when I put it all together again, the button that you push to turn the laptop on doesn't work. The lights that indicate the power is plugged on are lit, but that's all. Are you able to give me any ideas. I have a PEW91

Hi, Thank you for the video. I just have to replace a DC Jack for a Gateway NV55C03u, and was wondering if you have a video from start to finish of how to do that please?
@regazzz
@regazzz 10 лет назад
Hello, I would say there is no need to make such a video. You will just follow same steps except removing a power button from palmrest. Than lift up a left hinge without even removing a screen - replace a DC jack and put everything back together.

This video was awesome, actually used it to replace a cracked case/screen. But I have a problem I can't solve. My screen no longer powers down when i close the lid, even though I have the power options set to do so. I'm hoping someone can tell me exactly where the lid sensor is precisely in the NV55S model, If I have to suffer with manually hibernating my PC that's cool, but I like to know how and why things do what they do, and it'll drive me nuts until I restore this to perfect working order.

Hey Shawn Renn, there can be a magnetic switch, I am not sure don't know exactly, but if you had any magnets removed - place it back and it will may start to work again.

Re-assembly? I know watch this video in "backwards steps" :) My Gateway was obviously dropped. The right screen hinge assembly screw nuts are broken free from the plastic bottom. The top plastic fascia has a minor crack, which can be repaired with epoxy. Aside from buying a new case bottom, any ideas for how to fix the right screen mounting screw/nuts? I've found some of the plastic bits that held the nuts in place, but over time some is lost, or fell out.
@regazzz

This case bottom can be pretty cheap although can be also repaired by seller. Maybe some epoxy will help? I admire you, people, who repair their old computers/laptops and not buying a new one. In current purchase/replace mind nowadays it is incredible! Thank you!

@@regazzz This laptop was running Win7. Manjaro Linux is my OS of choice today, and runs great on this capable laptop. Epoxy is how I went. My repair could be a YT video. Short story: Goal -Glue grommets back onto tops of broken off posts. Research -Epoxy doesn't stick well to Teflon. Approach -1) Stick screw head to double sided tape on piece of cardboard to hold securely. 2) Wrap screw (somewhat small) with plumber's Teflon tape, covering all threads and end of screw. 3) Screw grommet onto this now "protected" screw. Repeat for other screw/grommet. 4) Mix high-strength epoxy. 5) Using a 1ml syringe (no needle), suck up as much epoxy mix as possible; 0.8ml in my case. 6) Inject epoxy into remaining mounting post inside tube until it is overflowing. 7) Place grommet with teflon-protected screw onto the top of the now very gluey post; repeat for other grommet. 8) Inject remaining epoxy between substructure spaces of broken off posts for re-enforcement. 9) Let cure overnight. Next day morning, the glue is solid, and the screws are not glued into the grommets. I will see if this is strong enough to bear the weight when re-attaching the screen. The only mistake I may have made is filling up the mounting posts. The screws may need more depth when re-attaching the screen than I left with epoxy down the mounting post. I'll know when I re-assemble this mess. Possibly a small wire drill bit through the grommet down the post to make clearance depth is needed. I also cleaned up the heat sink to get crap out of the fins, and replaced old thermal compound on CPU/GPU with fresh Tuniq TX-4. Fixing thermal throttling was my original goal. This project has spiraled out-of-control a bit with the screen/hinge mount fix. Needed to wait anyway for a 240GB SSD drive to arrive, which should help with battery life and overall performance. I've got about $65 (new battery/SSD drive) into this project. Well below asking price for working NV55C on eBay. This should make a nice IT diagnostics laptop.

Hey Kyle, it is internet and can be anytime of the day. I am on Pacific tim, so it's is about 3pm day time. I can't say from the top of my head what cpu you can use. First you need to figure out if you have AMD or Intel. Next step would be to figure what chipset your motherboard have. After that google what cpu this chipset can work with and there you have it.

I can imagine how hard it looks when you are doing it for the first time. Main advice - don't think you will be able to remember all screws and cables.This video will show main process to disassemble it.But to put together you may need to take pictures of all cables (how where the settled in a laptop, prior removing it)If you remove some part, keep screws with it) Better don't rely on your memory at all.
