I remember, our wonderful and awesome church, the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints, sending as early as the 70's crews to my country of origin, Spain, to microfilm the archives and records that the Catholic Church had allowed us to do. Even the great Archive of the Indies, was done by these methodical experts. We owe much to them. Much indeed.
I didn't have to do any extensive genealogy because my ancestors had already done that. I love my ancestors(which is sometimes easier than my loving some members of my immediate family). LOL
I sometimes think of myself as a child of God not a possession of my Mother or Country but as part of Gods creation and sometimes as a descendant of my parents.. there is room for both. Your parents may let you down but god well who knows ah, maybe Jesus can save you from a dysfunctional family and that's the point. maybe
I am also a child of a dysfunctional family, and I think your observations are accurate. The great thing about family history is that you can look beyond your parents to grandparents and other family members, and perhaps find some bond there. My husband and I have found wonderful stories of even distant cousins. It sounds like you believe in Christ and an afterlife--all things will be made right for you then, even if they can't be overcome in this life.
So true! God always was and always is our Father. Before you were born, you were with God and He sent you here. I can find refuge and healing in Christ when the people around me are too much. Faith in Christ can help you break the patterns of abuse brought on you by your original family so that you can lead your future family with love. I also know He is very good at helping us learn to forgive people who have hurt us. If you forgive your parents, it does not mean that what they did was right, but it does mean that your life will be happier.
