This was great watching a different kind of setup. Thanks for being so innovative and making pole spears better!

Awesome, How many inches of pole spear that you used in this video?
@RyanGattoni

Ans Elmeshri That polespear is our longest model. It's 256cm long when connected. All of our polespears break down in half for travel. The 10 foot pole breaks down into two sections. The all aluminum rear section which is 152 cm (60 inches), and the carbon graphite front end section which is 107cm (42 inches.) Heads are sold separately. Usually the TEN'ER is paired with our SlipTip.

Brilliant video, very informative and clear! I've been wondering: why is it that the sliptip is always attached to the end of the spear, and the floatline attached at the back of the pole? Wouldn't this put lateral stress on the pole, particularly at the joints? I understand it'd be fine for mid-size game but to me it seems that for a big fish it would be better to have the line from the tip run direct on to a floatline up to the float, perhaps going through an eyelet on a pole for control. Do you see what I mean?

+Agar4Life great question. You bring up a really good observation. When we first began hunting big fish, the full breakaway (like you mentioned above) was exactly what we thought was the best approach to big game hunting on a polespear. As we went in that direction, we learned that it becomes very complex with a full breakaway setup, and our motto has been to keep things simple and effective. Besides the complexity, your range is completely limited to the length of the pole when using with a full breakaway setup (you can't let go of the pole once you shoot, or you'll lose it.) In comparison, an In-Line setup allows you to get more distance with your each shot provided you're using a setup that minimizes any drag from a floatline. In regards to your point about putting lateral stress on the pole, at the joints, our carbon graphite front end aids this by absorbing the fishes lateral movements during the fight. We've actually seen our graphite front end bend 90 degrees on fish when they've taken them into a cave, and we have yet had the black graphite rod break on a customer.

+Ryan Gattoni (GATKU Polespears) Hi Ryan, thank you for a solid answer, it makes sense. I have a follow-up question - in your opinion as a builder, is it better to have a cheaper/lighter built spear whose components are repairable/replaceable when damaged, or one that is a touch overbuilt to prevent damage?

Agar4Life I think the important point to your question is pairing your gear to the fish you plan to hunt. If you're targeting small fish, less than 5 lbs, a cheaper/lighter spear is adequate. If you're hunting larger game fish, you'll want a tough spear that can handle those fish.

i feel dumb asking but how does your spear stay attached???
@RyanGattoni
@RyanGattoni 8 лет назад
it stays attached via a float line and float connecting the spear and floatline with our BigGame Bungee. Thank you for asking. That's a great question. Feel free to call me on my cell if you have any questions - 209-663-0868, Dustin's can also help (619) 507-3860
