We just left on Sept. 15, sure hate to see fires in our get-away spot. No telling how many times we've walked past China Bazaar, I've visited since Oct. 1979. We heard it was a possible gas leak but can't verify that, sad deal. Great job with the videoing!
I Hate when most any business closes with the exception of a Bar. It’s always great news when a Bar Closes for any reason.Hopefully some other type of business will replace it once the building is rebuilt.I’m happy everyone is safe that we’re affected by the fire.
This video was taken over 8 hours after the fire started?? Started around six and if I understand correctly you said it was around 2:30PM? Thats along time for a fire to burn without being put totally out? Just wondering. BTW...great job on the video!
Its an old saying, but still true. Things can be replaced but not people. A building can be rebuilt. All the material stuff inside can be replaced. Its really sad when you see something like this happen because I've been to Gatlinburg many times and walked by that building.
But it was pretty much under control by this time.I have seen several videos where the fire was shooting up out of the roof of several buildings and the smoke was very Black and Very Thick.
Which way was the wind blowing, we could see smoke hovering over Townsend/Pigeon Forge area on our way going home(Mississippi). It was real foggy this morning, I said that the Smokey Mountains were real smoky this morning, not knowing it was shops burning in the town of Gatlinburg. As a retired firefighter I told my husband something was burning somewhere. So very sorry for the lost of businesses and people out of work. Praying for all affected and very thankful this fire was contained and not setting fire to woodlands. Conditions are very dry. How long has it been since Gatlinburg area burned and spread into the woods? Two years ago? Gatlinburg did a wonderful job recovering from such destruction, and so quickly. May the shop owners be able to rebuild and come back better than before. Hats off to the responding departments and all personnel. Thank you for a job well done.
This coverage is far better than the "media" 6 and 10; 10 had someone that could barely speak English and had shots of hats on the street. The others were incoherent with one still camera. You did more than the professionals.
My family and I were just there in February on vacation daughter wanted to go into that store but it was closed that day. Just glad nobody got hurt as a business it can be rebuilt.
They're very lucky the winds were cooperating for the most part although it's sad what was lost it was contained. If the winds would have blown any other way or blue hard Sparks or embers could have easily taken down the inn next door
They could also be the owners of one of the businesses that burned.. I lost my business to fire in 2006 and was allowed to be nearby . Most of the people are outside the yellow ribbons on either side. Still remember the smell and sounds. Was in shock that whole day.
