GATONYA MAGATHITI DEBATE YA MUBANGAO WA KU IMPEACH GACHAGUA TUESDAY
Impeaching a Deputy President in Kenya is a detailed process outlined in Article 150 of the 2010 Constitution. It starts in the National Assembly, where a motion must be introduced, stating the reasons for impeachment. These reasons can include serious breaches of the Constitution or laws, committing major crimes, or being unable to perform duties due to physical or mental issues. For the motion to move forward, it needs support from at least one-third of the National Assembly members. If this requirement is met, the motion is discussed and voted on. To pass, it must receive approval from two-thirds of the members. If the motion is approved, it goes to the Senate for a trial. The Senate then forms a special committee to look into the allegations against the Deputy President. This committee holds hearings, reviews evidence, and talks to witnesses. After their investigation, they present their findings to the Senate. If two-thirds of the Senate finds the Deputy President guilty, they are removed from office. If found not guilty, they remain in their position. This process helps maintain checks and balances in the government, ensuring accountability and the rule of law in Kenya.
