Gator Bluefish on Pencil Poppers 10-15lb. Montauk NY 

haha yea the smaller blues are just as fun. I caught a 4lber yesterday but they are stacked in heavy current so they are so strong and it was pulling drag like it was nothing

if only they got as big as bass........haha imagine

+FishAholic Fishing damn that would be awesome. it would pretty much be plugging for small sharks. I wish blues got as big as stripers that would be amazing their sheer power and aggressiveness combined with the size of a bass. it would be one hell of a fight

Imagine if bluefish were to be the size of a big tuna or shark. There would be practically nothing left in the oceans except for bluefish. They are voracious predators!

Landed a 13 pound gator during a huge September blitz last year. Managed it on an 8' Star Rods Aerial and 15lb braid. I enjoy going light on line and reel so I can have a fun battle with the fish. Just gotta know how to fight the fish and make sure drag is perfectly set.

Absolutely. And remember that they are not garbage fish. You can eat them and they are delicious. Big or small. See so many, too many throw them back.

Nice yeah when they get up into the mid to upper teens thats when they can be compared to any decent size striper. Pound per pound the meanest and strongest fish. Imagine if they got as big as striped bass haha! The poppers in this video all were floating but some sink and some float because the sinking plugs generally have the same profile but weigh heavier therefore you can cast further and they will swim on the retrieve in the water column differently. If i was fishing during a strong side or head wind i would opt for a heavier and even a sinking plug so that on the retrieve my lure is actually being worked in the water and not being skipped across the surface.

Yeah definitely I couldn't see why not. But don't hold me to the response because I've never used or held a Spinfisher 5500, but I have tried a penn battle 5000 and 6000 on this Rod which worked like a charm. But then I still went back to the VS.

Hey yeah i feel like i never really need it when fishing with pencils poppers or most plugs. When im fishing i usually am always after the bass and blues are a side catch sometimes and never really carry wire on me when they show and im catching them so i just catch them and hope for the best. And hope my 25$ dollar gibbs does not get bit off. I once was being lazy and did not want to switch 20 to 40lb and first cast got my pencil bit off and i was like no way i was so angry I swam the 75 yards out to get it haha good thing im not to bad at swimming.

yeah very true. im about to film a video going to try and catch a bluefish on something really weird hopefully it works. it should be interesting.

Thanks, Bluefish when they get bigger aren't really sought after for table fare. But they can taste good with some preparation. Like bleed, ice, sometimes soak in milk, then cook the same day or the next day. Smoking them and making fish cakes in my opinion is the best way to eat them. Unless they are pretty small like 8" to 12" then they are perfect to pan fry and make a sandwich.

@@FishAholicTV Here in SOCAL, bonito are the same, much better eating than many realize; as you say, take care of fish and eat them fresh, hard to go wrong if you respect the catch. Can you offer a fall range---Sep through December, that sort of thing?

when surf fishing nets usually are not a necessary tool. Boga Grips and having an extra free hand are the best tools you can have.

john bickle if you net bluefish that big you'll be lucky to get two fish out of the net. they have monster teeth and those plugs have trebles. recipe for disaster.
