Gautam Gambhir was never afraid of anyone, any opposition, any player ... gave it back. Right on the face. Agression personified. Tit for tat. India ki shaan. Not only with words , but batting with grit and determination. 100% record as a World Cup Winner. Played 2, Won 2. And scored 75 and 97 in 2007 and 2011 respectively. Great player for our country, hard done in the end.
He was an amazing player. U mentioned all the right things except his world cup record. Apart from the 2007 and 2011 world cup, he played the 2009, 2010 & 2012 T20 World Cups.

It’s not in sportsmanship it’s part of the game. If there’s no aggressive atmosphere it the batsmen are emotionally fine. When sledging gets involved it takes the batsmans mind of the game.

Those times there was no IPL and hence no dominance of bcci in world cricket. Aussies used to dominate and sledge every team brutually. In our side we had gentlemen like sachin, dravid, laxman and then there was young furious gautam gambhir who not only had aggressive attitude but also the skills to score in overseas. Him and yuvi had literally dominated many big teams in their times. Today every cricket team wants to be friend with Indian team because of IPl and their popularity among indians otherwise, if today's kids had to play in that era they would have literally cried. These days there is no intensity left in matches. Fans are fighting over there favouraite IPL teams. Rather than a ind vs aus test march people have more interests in RCB MI CSK matches and sad part is that they are trolling other indian players just to prove that their favouraite player is better. This scripted tournament have ruined the flavor of real cricket drama.

How quick and strange was his career. People only remember him for those epics in finals. But few remember those 3 years 2008 to early 2010, he was as consistent as any, ever....and then lost his form all of sudden and got dropped all of a sudden just after 1 or 2 series for never to return except for 1 odd test after year or two. This is what u call zyaatti, mishandling, mismanagement, finishing off a career and he never cried or complained. Like Kambli and some others.
Too many players disappeared. Dhoni also in good form but retired . No of players searching for opportunity in India to play one match is high , keeping everyone happy is not possible.
