MCC Theater's annual MisCast gala is one of the most exciting and unique theater events in town. Broadway’s hottest stars perform songs from roles in which they would never be cast.
Why do they all look like this is something they have been secretly doing for years in their homes and are so glad someone is actually asking them to do it now
He's actually moderately skilled 😂with that thing - - which is unfortunate because he is neither bad enough for the part nor good enough to convincingly fake being bad😂.
WAAAAAY back in 1989, a couple of college friends and I did a lip-synch routine to this number in full drag for a talent show. As I recall, I had a huge black bouffant wig and a catsuit with huge cutouts on the waist/hips. Don't remember if we won, but I remember the performance. Such a fun number, all style. These pros ROCKED it.
What I never like is when you feel you have to distance yourself from the stuff. It is just in the beginning, but they should have refrained from that. (I have the same in how many 'Who's That Woman' performances are done. It takes away from the exitement.
Well, I'm gonna be that be itch. This number from Gypsy (for me) encapsulated (part of) the struggle that women especially face when trying to "succeed" in a "man's world". While the lessons in the song are universal to all, I really don't feel that it's a song for any man to sing (without making a mockery). Sorry.
The whole point of these concerts is to have women sing songs normally performed by men and vice versa. It's not meant to be taken with such seriousness.
This is actually kind of perfect because it's regarding American Burlesque and the old school need to have a gimmick in order to make your act interesting. Have you seen Gypsy?
@@katiekirby5319 hi Katie, yes I have and I love this number. It's funny and I love the lyrics and attitude. Unfortunately I just didn't think this routine was as good as others I've seen.. Maybe you had to be there 😁
@@dmm9714 I thought it was cute.. Miscast is never very serious, unless they're doing a serious number and then men are famous for doing comedy. I'm actually playing Electra in a production right now, so I'm excited to see how it turns out. Maybe I'll be able to upload our version. :-)
@@katiekirby5319 you get to sing what's probably my favourite Sondheim lyric! "I'm electrifying, and I ain't even tryin'." How wonderful. Break a leg and it would be great to see your routine on RU-vid 😊
