Porcupine Tree song "Futile" written by Gavin Harrison and Steven Wilson arranged for big band by Laurence Cottle. Filmed at a drum clinic in Chesham UK. Sound recorded by Donald Lang and mixed by GH.
Another reason I really love hearing Gavin is his choice of Equipment I previously had a Sonor set which always sound great crisp and delivers the punch needed in this type of music.Gavin Harrison is also fantastic
It is true percussion masters plus. Not only does he play he writes, transcribes and writes books and records dvd's to help us ailing drummers. All of this is extremely hard to do on all levels. Thanks to Gavin everything is illuminated.
TheRedSock that would be incredible. i guess the world its not ready for that! Lets make a request for Hiromi on her page or something like it. Two brilliant minds of music. A very good idea.
Laurence Cottle did a master class at my Uni, although an insane amount of be-bop it was pretty awesome. I've been nagging for a PT masterclass ever since.
when i heard this for the first time at his drum clinic in holland i didnt realize it was futile till the end when he said it! even though its one of my favorite songs to cover on the drums... now that i know it i sorta hear it :P
because he's a great drummer, that's why he plays jazz. Not every drummer can play jazz, actually it's harder then a typical fast song like Metallica or whatever.
Wow, I can't believe that Futile could work as something else, but amazingly enough, here's evidence that it can. I don't even feel the need to mention that Gavin's drumming was awesome; when isn't it?
@@JiBenJiBee It's just jazz fusion dude. Stella By Starlight, It Ain't Necesserily So and Summertime are also classical pieces originally, but are considered jazz standards as well. It's music, so it's about using your ears. If you hear jazz, it's jazz.
SWEET! Almost like the Dave Weckl Band with Jay Oliver on keyboard. This style of drumming with more Karn and less Pastorius style bass would be awesome!
damn't i hope they release the music for this in some form so it can be played as a district jazz piece for high school players then again there's no drummer that could possibly play this as good as gavin
