We may not know who those "shadow cats' are, but there's no mistaking what they are; hired henchmen. I think that if they were human they'd probably wear identical black suits with ties, ski masks, large floppy hats, and carry tommy guns.
On another note, I really wish this movie could get a full soundtrack release, not just the songs with lyrics, because good grief, whoever composed the score deserves(deserved?) a pat on the back and enough money to set him up for life.
