Our WRX has been racing for a couple of years now on pretty much stock power, so with the chassis sorted it was time for a power upgrade! We also changed the diff ratios and improved our brakes, all on a budget.
One thing that money can't buy, is seat time, skill and experience. It is even more important than power. Andrew has so much experience, and skill already that it takes years and years to accumulate. Plus it makes quality videos, since he definetly knows what he is talking about. It makes these videos even more enjoyable to watch, when he unloads the knowledge and know-how to theae videos.
@@PokeysMechanical I know. I have a backlog of 5 videos right now with suspension and brake upgrades, a diesel engine build, a differential upgrade, and a jurassic jeep. Life just been in the way for a while and havent been able to edit. Just fixed my computer so i'll be back to putting up a video in the near future.
@@cardesinr Sweet mate, keen to see it, ill subscribe to yours now, you should give mine a watch also, not doing the builds as such,. traveling Aus looking for awesome cars to film and awesome roads.
love the 98/99 gc8 wrx its the best looking module in my opinion its just missing the 2.5ltr the ej20 or 205 just does not like to make reliable power.... some good advice given for the next build cheers..
Nice power gains, you can definitely see in those runs with increase in power and response. Why would he upgrade the turbo now, when CRD can squeeze that much out of a td04 !
@Motive video are you going to be doing many more videos on the wrx improvements? I used to own a legacy gt b4 and always wanted an Sti. This video is great for someone like me on a budget that wants a nice 2nd car to rip around on the road and track but doesn't know where to start with upgrades. Keep it up please!
Nice video andrew. You should change the steering rack to a 13:1 next. you can get a gdb jdm sti one and adapt it or a gc8 quick rack which are from type ra
I had the 4.44 fd, alongside a Version 4 STi RA gearbox on my fozzy XT. 4000 rpm at 120km/h, but man, that thing could respond. It had the torque of the 2.5l to help it alongside a vf48
Hey guys big fan of the build I'm pretty much doing the same but for street use so i won't be doing the Gear ratio. I wanted to know what BOV you have have mounted to your Process West top mount? Also do you have a Oil Catch Can ( which one? ) or AOS ( which one? ) and why isn't your RPM gauge working on the dash? Awesome videos hope to see you guys in QLD i just moved up from Sydney and saving up for the Haltech ECU.
They supplied my JZA70 1JZ with OEM harness and ECU for my Cressy a few years before Scott went silly and became a WRX shop. 😁 Ichiban could get you imported motors back in the day when you thought there were none left in existence. 👍
It'll be interesting to see how the DBA rotors go for you. The ones I've seen are in an underbraked targa car but need to be replaced almost daily, depending on the weather.
Nangkang AR-1 tyre next. Also Andrew can you please link me to the Elig pads? I found an orange box, but the one in the video was green. Same car as your but an RA
Would you guys be interested in buying a H6 3 litre from out of a 2001 outback? Nice vid, some great info in the comments. Im in the process of improving my own gc8.... work in progress though
You don't need to be paying 1/4 of a grand for an AFM 😂😂, search up GU Patrol 00-04 MAF on Ebay they are exactly the same for only $30, i've had a good run with those ebay sensors the worst i had failed after 8 months but at nearly 10x cheaper it's not bad 🤔 on another note I really want a low ratio final drive after seeing this video , man those gear changes are perfect !
@@MotiveVideo I meant adding an RA gearbox to your 4.44 setup. Those things are insane response wise. Considering you already have the awesome 4.44 diff, it'd be even more responsive. Love your content, can't wait for a GC8 update!
Why was this only 130kw? isn't that only like 170hp? i thought these were 276? That engine sound (Exhaust sound actually) is SO incredible, you'd wonder why every cvar enthusiast doesn't just swap their exhaust header system for an unequal one to get that identical sound as you get from these
Should upgrade the wheels.. A common upgrade in Portugal is blobeye sti wheels redrilled for 5x100. They are 8" wide and et53, this gives a slightly larger footprint and a wider track. Easier upgrade is the bugeye sti wheels, same effect but are not as wide, width and track.
I'm SO pissed off, that instead of Subaru discontinuing the Impreza WRX STi with a "Final Edition" car that was just a slightly touched up factory new model, that they didn't spend a year bring the original and best 1998 GC8 Impreza back onto the market for it's final year. Would that have been so difficult? and they would have sold a f*cking TONNE of them.. Why isn't this possible does anyone know? To bring back a 20 year old car, sell them for a year as new... WHY!
Thanks Motive Video your videos are great but... why do you have a co-driver that doesnt't read pace notes, she only says what you can see outside the windows, you don't need balast ahahah
6:49 hmmm i wonder why you picked this co-driver... one of the only female co-drivers in the area, meaning it's more than likely she isn't even middling in ability compared to the 30 guys you could have chosen. I's amazing how great your life can be when you have a nice face and a pair Tair of Pitts. Also "Co-Driver". you could have put a trafic cone in the second seat and it would have given you just as much input.
thinking intercooler mister . but i see it at the nose of the hood as well . so im confused also , hope it wasn't a way to taint the comparison , and assure more power with the filter by using water for its wicking ability to draw heat out , making cooler IAT's . sketched me out also when i saw it . but cant think of anything else that makes sense ..
@@MotiveVideo good deal , and yeah we couldn't see it on the prior pulls . you should look into the DEI ( design engineering inc ) CRYO2 intercooler CO2 sprayer system . the combination works amazingly .
@@MotiveVideo I was just say u should of added those 2 things while u where having it tuned, vf35 can be picked up cheap and offers stock like spool but with massive mid range torque
@@azza9575 We did look for one actaully but couldnt find one. We want to see the results step by step though and show people that power is the last priority when trying to go fast in rallysprints
GT-R in a few weeks. We are working on it now. JET200 we are slowly collecting parts but its realistacally a couple of months away with our busy event and build schedule.
synchro box and open diffs dont need heal and toe. would make no difference. Cant stay on throttle as we need to turn in and throttle gives WRX understeer.
@@AdmissionGaming OK. So if we dont compression lock in any way and the synchros work and it goes into gear, how is it helping anyhting? Our Silvia time attack car gets compression lock as rear end is light and tight diff and has a dog box, so, it needs rev matching. If we do it in the wrx its just to look and sound cool. it wont help in this car.
I always thought rev matching would put less load on the gearbox & things like oil pump & timing gears but I've driven some standard cars that will grind if you dont rev match when gearing down abruptly but I am not sure about WRX's?
@@MotiveVideo because when you double clutch the shift your allowing the synchros to speed up without any load on them, one it's better you won't get compression lock up, it's also better on the gearbox if done correctly. If your going from 5th into 3rd while braking you need to rev match it.
We only started on that yesterday and have less than 2 weeks to be ready for GT-R Challenge and Modified Live. We'll film all of it and make video in a few weeks
Prefer the Lancer EVO any day of the week. No pesky scoop to reflect sunlight in my eyes plus Boxer engines have fundamentally more reliability and durability issues than traditional inline 4 cylinder engines.
No they don't. What kills these engines are mostly tune related detonation issues and when neclected, oilling issues. They're fun little packages when built right, especially for track days. And the scoop, don't get me started on it. I love the view behind a hoodscoop. Now, granted, I am used to Subarus in general, I would love to try an Evo someday, mainly, a III RS.
