Dan & Matt took on the medium route 106km, and 3130m of climbing. Matt appeared to go off too fast, in Dan's words of course.
Taking in the following climbs
Passo Campolongo
Passo Pordoi
Passo Sella
Passo Gardena
Passo Campolongo (again!)
Passo Falzarego
But before they could ride it, the guys had to undertake a medical test to make sure they were in good enough shape to participate. We never had any doubt!
Also show is Dan Lloyd taking part in a kids race, don't ask!

(someone may have already suggested this) You guys should do a cheap second hand road bike challenge. and then test them out to see what you can buy for certain budget price points. like a second hand £300 aluminum road bike, each presenter goes off and buys a bike, meets back and tests them out. it could provide great advice on buying second hand bikes for people that either cant afford or dont want to blow £1000+ on a bike.
@alexjrashman
@alexjrashman 7 лет назад
yes!!!!!!
@ska042

I mean, £1000 is barely leaving "cheap road bike" territory, for what these guys are used to ;)
@joeyslats31

cerebellum haha. i suppose so, I mean if youre not a competitive racer and are studying or still in school anything over that is astronomical.

@paras86
@paras86 7 лет назад
I don't think you can find road bikes for 300 £, brand new road bikes start from 600 £ (if not in special offer, then it may go to a bit less than 500), unless you go second hand, you can't find cheaper bikes, and that if they are even available (so far, saw one once, it became my first rad bike). The most expensive part of a bike is the frame set, if the budget should be that low, the frame should be provided, mid-entry level aluminium maybe? and then the presenters should have a week to find the rest of the parts in second hand for a limited budget (tires maybe also brand new?) and in the evaluation it should be considered the budget and performance in different tests (climbing, sprint, max speed on flat, gear shifting performance, etc)

I like Dan's self assessment and his honesty about it, but what I really like is his racer's instinct: "We'll get some on the descent, let's go". And genuinely so happy about his lung capacity too. Heart of a racer, has Dan. I bet he's right about the number of hidden motors out there though...
@snerual2010
@snerual2010 7 лет назад
David Simons do you know how expensive hidden motors are?
@dupondavignon869
@dupondavignon869 7 лет назад
+Laurens Verheij : I've just checked for a bike + motor : 5.800 € (carbone frame and fork, shimano ultegra). That's a price pretty many cyclists put in a bike, even if their fitness level is low. Many cyclists are just arrogant and nearly retards, they compare themselves when they cheat with other honest riders, and forget the cheat they made... I just couldn't do this, it's like writing on Wordpad : "I won the Tour de France 2h ahead the 2nd, and this each time I participated to it." and thinking what I just wrote would be true... The fact with retards is they don't realize the history they write is full bullshit, they really think they're strong.
@Sionnach1601
@Sionnach1601 6 лет назад
+dupon davignon: Yeah you're right about a lot of cyclists' arrogance. I've worked and dealt with a LOT of different varied demographs and all types of people throughout my life; and I have NEVER come across such an unfriendly, and insecure demographic of people. The non-competitive people are lovely; but the competitive guys are just so up their own asses. Look down on anything they can, and will not return a friendly salute as they think they are setting land-speed records!! Just asses a lot of them.

It's more a roadside bodge; run a finger over your chain and transfer that lubricant onto the pump-head screw threads, before putting it onto the tube. It's a bodge because you'll only realise after once the moment has passed.

I think we all loved the casual approach that you guys took toward enjoying, and reporting on, the event - but, at the same time, you guys were/are our resident team, so I'm equally willing to bet most of us were a little disappointed that you guys weren't passing everyone in sight. ;-) Yeah, yeah, you told us that it isn't a race... but we all want to see our GCN team 'school' the competition (at least a good part of the time). I am really torn between appreciating the 'participate' and not 'compete' approach (great to see), and the 'pass and destroy' approach for future events.
@gcn

Hi David - in all honest, we couldn't. Matt and I raced and trained for many, many years, and competed at a decent level, but we're now retired from that and ride our bikes simply for fun. We're a long way from our race fitness, and to be honest, we've done so much racing that it's quite nice to ride around without worrying about getting passed. Dan

Guys, come on, you chickened out, the Giau is the best bit, well the descent anyway, the climb is just damn hard. Where you turned off for the SHORT route, well that just lead on to a fabulous descent to the foot of the Giau. I rode the event last Sunday though never saw you, I`m sure that I would have said hi if I had & yes the Mur du Giat was a killer at the end wasn`t it, the sting in the tail for sure.
