In this video, we look at the effect of temperature and pH on the activity of enzymes. We explore how the structure of the active site of an enzyme can be denatured.
This video is based on the AQA spec. If you are following a different exam board then you should check your specification. The Amazon link above is an affiliate link. Hi Sir, just did my gcse bio paper 1 exam (trip higher)! AQA were being sneaky as the practicals weren't 6 markers and nothing on the heart came up, perhaps a link to arteries in one question but that's about it. Despite that, just wanted to say a massive thanks- I wouldn't have came out of that exam pleased overall as i had done without your videos. My weakest subject is Biology in school in particular paper 1 but i think thanks to your help i might have a chance of getting a 7. Hope you are well!

@Freesciencelessons
@Freesciencelessons 6 лет назад
Hi. The active site is a groove on the surface of an enzyme molecule. So the active site is the specific part of the enzyme where the substrate fits in. The active site is not the SAME as the enzyme, it's PART of the enzyme. Hope that's ok. Good luck in your exam.

What is the difference between Triple and Combined Science Higher Books please?
@Freesciencelessons
@Freesciencelessons Год назад
Triple students cover a greater range of topics than those studying combined science. Triple students are awarded three GCSEs (Chemistry, Biology and Physics) whereas combined science students are awarded two GCSEs (called Combined Science). The books cover the topics appropriate to each strand. The triple books contain all of the content of the combined science books plus the extra topics needed for triple.

If you look at the pH (on the x axis) that the enzyme works fastest at, that tells you the optimum pH.

One question. What will happen to the enzyme if it is too much neutral like amylase which brakes up carbohydrates into glucose ?
@ahmedsheikh1719
@ahmedsheikh1719 2 года назад
how will he answer the vid is from 2017 and where in 2022 💀
@ellaashford6069
@ellaashford6069 2 года назад
if its not in the right conditions then the enzyme will denature (which basically is a fancy word for change shape) which ruins the lock + key theory because it no longer breaks down the molecule it was made for, so basically if a protease molecule was in neutral ph conditions, it wouldnt break down protein molecules because they're meant to be in the stomach which has a v acidic condition
