will you get told which monomer it is/ the name of the monomer when writing out tht equation?

could you not draw out poly ethene while having just one carbon and two hydrogen atoms per repeating unit? and then have 2n to the right of the bracket instead of n. or is there some sort of rule that prohibits this?
