In this video, we look at how to use chemical reactions to identify the non-metal ions carbonate, halides (chloride, bromide, iodide) and sulfate.

Hello, thanks for making this video and all of the others they are very helpful. I have noticed they are heavily based on the specification. Do you recommend focusing my revision on what is specified in the specification or will they add things in the exam which will not be in the spec and catch me out?

A biocomposite material contains a fibre from a living organism (usually a plant fibre eg flax or jute) embedded in a man-made material such as a plastic resin. The plant fibre is light but also strong.

The acid gets rid of any carbonate that may be present. Carbonates would produce a precipitate with the silver ions.

Hello ,this comment will relate to an earlier video: thank you for your brilliant teaching just wondering I noticed that you wrote 2000 W , for our GCSE are we a meant to put 2KW or just 2000W, Thanks again .

Hi and thanks for the comment. The unit of power is the watt (ie 1J/s). So I think that you should use watts. However, for large values it's perfectly ok to use kW instead. Usually in the exam, they tell you the unit that they want you to use, if they have a preference. Hope that answers your question.
