Dude, I was just getting comfortable and ready for action and the video ended. When the radio wave is produced, can you “catch” the radio wave anywhere? That is, in a 360 degree radius? That is to say, anywhere in a sphere surrounding the radio wave source? So is the wave a spherical wave? If so, what happens to the excess energy lost? Thank you!

Why do very short waves have to be directly transferred from transmitter to reciever? Why does an object get in tbe way?
@rhyspounder9199
@rhyspounder9199 4 года назад
1. They have to directly transfer from transmitter to receiver because they don't have much range. 2. An object gets in the way because it loses its strength because it goes A to B meaning it doesn't curve or anything it just goes straight through objects and the stronger insulator it is the more it loses its signal like going through paper wouldn't make a huge difference to most waves apart from ones with very short frequency such as gamma rays but lead will stop pretty much all waves if not bent around.

So are radio waves and photons one and the same? I mean surely photons carry more than visible light?
@stustjohn
@stustjohn 3 года назад
That's quite a nice video... apart from the random introduction of "800" 😱 As well as being wrong information, it's also of no practical use whatsoever. Think about it: if I want to transfer a piece of information to you using a radio wave, say, 800 kHz, for example, *you* would need to know what frequency to tune your set to in order to receive my signal. But if you knew that , then the number I had "sent" would not be new information!
@stustjohn
@stustjohn 3 года назад
Having watched it again, I can see (from your diagram) what you were trying to do, but this does not come across in the script. The problem is, of course, that we don't want to start GCSE students worrying about modulation. I think that your diagram hints at it - somehow you are going to put the 800 Hz wave into/onto (modulate) the higher frequency carrier wave. Then, the person who receives the carrier wave uses their receiver to strip off the added waveform (demodulate) and examine it... This is part of the frustration of much of the modern GCSE Physics syllabus: it gets tantalisingly close to being useful/relevant but then cuts off at the point where it might make some sense! (Compare also the mind-bending use of LDRs to control lamps in potential divider circuits, all because transistors are no longer on the syllabus. There are some crazy ideas appearing in textbooks and revision guides that attempt to make sense of this, rather than accepting we have a point in the circuit where the potential rises and falls according to the light level... which we can utilise with the right device, as long as it draws negligible current.) Sorry, I'll shut up now!

NIce, too bad a lot of it is not quite there ..... you'd use s frequency generator not a "scope" to generate the frequency to go out. The oscilloscope is a measurement tool usually.
@groggers

a lot of oscilliscopes nowadays have built in signal generators, and yes while I agree it's good to be specific, this level of detail probably isn't required for the exams at GCSE
