Database Clone:
Refreshing the lower databases (DEV/TEST/UAT) from latest PRODUCTION data.
ACFS Snapshot:
This is new technology introduced by Oracle to clone/prepare the Database as a snapshot copy from master database.

gDBClone snap - Snapshot database
Advantages
Huge storage saving from 120TB to 100 GB.
Huge Time saving for database cloning from 2 - 3 days to 20 to 30 min.
Huge performance improvement since these SNAPSHOT databases are going to resided in ACFS mount point.
These lower snapshot instances (DEV/TEST/UAT) will get the new EXADATA features since ACFS mount point resides in EXADATA.
There are no license cost - Its free licensing from Oracle.
Disadvantages
All Snapshots DBs owners are same as Master DB owner.
Snapshot clone is only at DB level not at application level. Application cloning remains same as usual.
This Snapshots clone only supports for ACFS file systems. This will not support on OS filesystems servers.
gDBClone works on a Grid Infrastructure environment only.
Source database must be in archive log mode when cloning/snapshotting as it’s executed a hot clone/snapshot.
