I actually don't think that it was ES44C4 starting up. I think the sound is coming from the second engine which is a dash 9-44CW, because I know the 7FDL-16 when I hear it and the ES44C4 has the GEVO-12. anyway, I appreciate the effort, and it was a great sound.

The hissing sound you hear from these locomotives as well as others out there are the check valves working so not to over pressurize the compressed air system used for things such as brakes and sanding for traction and other phnumatic I/E compressed air system,s on the locomotive that,s it...🧐🧐🤔🤔🤨😐

I heard the warning bell, but the engine start wasn't as great as I had hoped. I was looking for a plume of smoke or something. Thanks for posting though.

This was less eventful then cold starting a"smart"car...HAHAHA!!. No belching black and white smoke,no occasional fire out of the stack,nothin'!!.The starting alarm is louder then the engine itself!!.

That's usually the "engine start" warning bell or something like that. I know that the warning alarm sounds like that when you stop cranking the engine before there is sufficient fuel in the cylinders to actually start the engine.

Spoke to a couple people involved in the construction of the T1Trust engine. Too bad they turned out to be dicks. I was going to donate to the trust, but maybe they need to be more selective in who they allow to communicate with the public about the project, otherwise I might have changed my mind. Not that my donation would have made a big difference, but it's the principle.
@844Steamtrain
@844Steamtrain 5 лет назад
Sorry that happened to you. Don't let them get to you. I only speak to Brad Noble via email when I'm ordering a gift, to get a tracking number for my product. He's been a nice guy so far. I really think you should reconsider, it is a great project. Your donation, no matter how big or small, makes all the difference! Lots of people have already donated money and special steam locomotive parts, and it has really helped move the project along. :)

I've seen locos just like these on the Houlihan Hill and Curve between Princeville and Chillicothe, IL. These are 6,000-7,000 HP monsters. They do about 60 mph through Chillicothe and 80 mph between Edelstein and Princeville. After they get past Princeville, there is a long stretch of track between Princeville and Galesburg where they really open 'em up. The engines are turbocharged.
@TeamGlockAustria
@TeamGlockAustria 10 лет назад
You're not even close on the horse power, 4400 or less. You're also wrong on speed, no freight train in the US goes 80. Your facts are waaaay off.
@master7chief
@master7chief 10 лет назад
TeamGlockAustria Actually some can have up to 5500hp like the SD80MAC and on long flat stretches of track freight trains will do 70, maybe 75mph dependeng on traction motor gearing; so he's not really too far off. Some rail companies derate/detune locomotive engines to extend engine life, so I'd imagine some may do the opposite if they are regularly used for pulling coal trains over mountains.
@TeamGlockAustria
@TeamGlockAustria 10 лет назад
Get an engineer card then come talk. I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. This video isn't about 80macs you asshat.
@master7chief
@master7chief 10 лет назад
TeamGlockAustria Haha, I work in a locomotive shop man. But what better way to garner respect than to call names, no one's ever tried that before. We load box locomotives following all engine repairs. That means running in N8 for 15min and dissipating power through the resistor grids. You can get a live readout of HP and I've seen 4000HP AND 4400HP on the same model. This information is readily available online, why don't you go read rather than post misinformation and insult people?
@TeamGlockAustria
@TeamGlockAustria 10 лет назад
Misinformation? Show me one Gevo putting out 7,000 HP or going 80mph anywhere. Over speed indicator maybe? Of course you would know that. I run these every single day so I'm pretty aware of horsepower and speed even allowed in the US. Nice try dude.

Spirex valve, ejects moisture from the air system
@swashington942
@swashington942 8 лет назад
+formidable38 Elaborate please.
@formidable38
@formidable38 8 лет назад
When you compress air it contains moisture which messes up valves and can cause brake failure in cold weather as it freezes up the valves in the brake system. That noise you hear is the spirax valve ejecting the moisture from the air system keeping the air 'dry'. Its also sometimes called an air dryer.
@swashington942
@swashington942 8 лет назад
+formidable38 Ok because it sounds like its making that sound several times per minute. Where are the release valves located?
