Oda(the author) said that it was inspired by Tom and Jerry. Saying he thought making transformations "always serious" gets boring. And he wanted to make a transformation that actually is original but also, same with the power up as well Gear 5 breaks the cliches of typical anime transformations Gear 5 is really not what everybody thinks. It's just an amazing idea by Oda, he is a genius

That entire moment when Luffy stands back up is perfect. The voice acting, the music, the sound design, the coldest lines in Wano (Kaido: "Hey, you'll die..." Luffy: "Do you think I'm afraid of that?!"), the GOD TIER animation and the flashbacks to what Luffy is carrying on his back.
3:12 to answer your question, basically mythical zoans have power of both a zoan and either a paramethia/ logia. For example, Marco is a phoenix but he can produce flames. Also Sengoku is a Buddha but he can produce shockwaves, Kaido is a dragon but can also produce flames, Yamato is a mythical dog and can make ice which are features of a paramethia. Also the zoan guards in impel down like the minotaur were said to be awakened which increased their durability
Correct me if I'm wrong wasn't Kaido's fruit already awakened? Isn't his dragon form the awakened ability of his zoan fruit? His fruit is originally a Koi fish then it turned into a dragon. Just not sure if that's the awakened form.
Nah I think Kaido would have either thrown him up or turned to rubber but then again Kaido is known for being invincible! Without the rubber abilities I don’t think Luffy could even use foosen like he did
Since luffy can change kaido into rubber aswell he would’ve just turned into a giant/luffy with a kaido skin. He turns his stomach to rubber and blows it up.

Those 3 Jailers at Impel Down were awakened Zoans: Koala, Zebra, and Rhino. They were all Awakened. Most Zoans when Awakened have INCREDIBLE Durability, Healing, and Stamina
@@heavenlyillNah, they were ass because they probably didn’t reach their awakening naturally. They didn’t have the hagoromo usually associated with awakened Zoans. Look at Lucci and Kaku’s awakened forms as examples of true regular Zoans that have been awakened.
@@heavenlyill also zoans fruits have a will of their own. I think a fully awakened zoan has their mind taken over by their fruit, at least from what was said back in impel down by croc. That makes me think that theres a loophole with that rule if a human eats a human human zoan fruit. Im also assuming luffy technically died right? Aren't awakened zoans also users who have died and become resurrected? Obv every zoan user that dies dont become awakened, but I think that is an important specific threshold to awaken. This also makes me wonder, maybe kaido ISNT awakened, he's just too powerful to die. Unable to awaken no matter how hard he tries to die, he makes it up with incredible durability and haki. Heck, the king of the pirates didnt have a DF. Haki is enough to become the strongest in the world in OP.

For those wondering, Zoan fruits have a will on their own, this is the reason that objects can eat these fruits, the problem with awakening Zoan Fruits is that if the will of the fruit is stronger it will overtake the body, and yes, we have already seen awoken Zoan in Impel Down 🙂
CAN* We also saw this way before. Chopper's awakening is monster point, which he can "force" out with the rumble ball. pre time skip his will was weaker than the fruits, thus he lost control during the transformation. Luffy answering with his name to Kaido's question of who he is pretty much tells the same story, he is in control of the awakening. At least almost in complete control, the laughing fits are probably induced by the will of the fruit.
This was a fantastic episode! It was even better than the previous. It’s because we got to see Gear 5 in full force. And it once again it was because this added motion and sound and color to what we already saw in the manga. GUM-GUM GIGANT was perfect!!!! Seeing Luffy with just the eyes on the black screen. Luffy jumping out of Kaido’s mouth makes so much more sense than him coming out of Kaido’s eyes. I loved the Woody Woodpecker like laugh Luffy did when he also did the tire like spinning with his legs right after the blast breath. I always got the sense that Luffy was actually jumping up and down when using Gum-Gum Jump Rope. I loved that when he got tired, he didn’t just deflate but turned gray and desaturated. And that when he powered back up again, he “chose the correct beat!” And the gorgeous colors!!! And then "Over the Top" starts to play! Everyone’s reaction to Luffy coming through the roof was hilarious. I almost wanted to see Marco’s eyes pop out too. I’m glad they kept in Yamato’s line about Luffy being white even though that was clearly meant to tell manga readers what Luffy’s coloring is. But they tweaked the line so it sounds less like she’s telling us and more like she’s wondering it to herself or Momo. And it’s always fun to see Luffy try to think. And I liked that they added in the first 2 pages of 1046 with Zunesha celebrating Joyboy returning but also affirming that this is still Luffy and not him being possessed by Joyboy like what happens in a bunch of other Shounen manga.

The guards in Impel down were awakened zoans way before doflimngo said anything about awakening, they had an extreme rate of recovery due to there awakening.
Actualy Logia Awakening may be when you affect environment. Best cases - Punk Hazard, where Akainu and Aokidji changed weather permanently. Other case can be - Lightning Island in New World. And one - where BlackBeard was after Marinford - it was all in fire. So it can be that Logia Awakening can affect even more, in such scale, that it bacame permanent. As for Mythical Awakening - arent Kaido have "Flames" around his neck? And Yamato? So he uses fire, and Yamato Ice. Maybe it's default abilities, but being a Dragon, and manipulate weather - it's different for me...
Fun fact: The 5 jailer Beasts in impel down is said to be awakened zoan fruit users that turn into mindless monster because their mind couldn't keep up with the awakening and finally lost their mind to their zoan fruit
Mythical Zoan devil fruit is similar like having multiple devil fruits at once. Like Kaido, he can turn into dragon, shoot a fire blast from his mouth,can use lighting,shoot a wind slash and produce a flame cloud that lift the entire island.
Hey Steph and Mel the Belz fam! Chiming in regarding the Zoan awakening. If you haven’t figured it out yet, it was discussed in Impel Down. Sir Crocodile and Luffy discussed the demon guards. The ones who looked like animals. In that discussion 🐊 explained they were awakened Zoan devil fruit users. Some of the properties of awakened Zoan types is increased strength and endurance. Which explained why they were able to take a beating from Luffy and the others, but keep coming back stronger time and again. Just a flashback reminder if you had not figured it out. Yeah that scene of luffy in the clouds was a callback to Skypea, which is also the first time the Sun God (and Joyboy I think) was mentioned and where oda sowed some of the first seeds for G5/Joyboy
Oto took inspiration for G5 from Luney tunes, as Tom and Jerry is his fav show. The stance with his fist to the ground that he takes at G2 and 2nd G5 is Luffy regaining and rejusting his will and Haki flow, to flow more fluently throw his body and will. that's why he takes it at times like these. The Nika fruit gives the user the power to turn anything by his will into imagination.
the thing ive noticed about all the mythical zoans so far, they all have properties of other fruit types sengoku can do shockwaves similar to whitebeards or law, marco can become pseudo intangible like a logia, and luffy can turn everything into rubber like a paramecia
2:50 kaido was talking about luffy form not luffy effecting around him, because paramecia awaken they still have they form... Just can manipulate around them to they fruit, but luffy not only can manipulate around him but his form also change which is exclusive form of zoan fruit
oda was apparently inspired by Tom and Jerry and from what I've read Oda also wanted to give luffy a transformation that matched his light hearted character instead of making him super serious. I think people were expecting a more shonen type transformation like super sayian or naruto style.
I like how you mentioned not seeing Luffy having any sort of Logia traits even though he has both paramecia and zoan. I feel like his fight with Katakuri who's a paramecia but could make himself fluid like a logia could be a forshadow for what Luffy could do in his Gear 5.

The thing that Kaido pointed is that is what weird the changes of direction of Luffy arms in his attacks. Gum doesn't does it. Now he has pointed the fact that his surrondings changes is a proof that his fruit has awakened. This kind of awake is for paramecia fruits. But at the same time he has changed how he looks, and it is done by zoan fruits, only. So he knows for sure that his fruit is not what it is said to be. It works different. It is more as Marco fruit, a mytical zoan. He has different forms and also powers that affect the envoirement and other people. Regarding awakened zoans. Yes, we had seen them. The first fruit we saw awakened was Cocrodile one (when he uses his right hand to make everything become sand). The second awakened fruits, explained by Cocrodile, were the "animal guards" in Impel Down. Normal zoan fruit users with an incredible extra durability because it's fruits were awakened. It is the normal use of awakened zoan fruits. Extra durability and strength.
Yeah there are fruits that almost have the properties of 2 categories. Like Katakuri having a paramethia but also having properties of a logia(I don’t know or i forgot if he could feel the pain when someone shot him), marco having a zoan while also having logia ability (that’s just his healing factor) and finally luffy a zoan but having paramethia body and abilities. So yeah hopefully we see more of thos “special fruits” and maybe you could also count sengoku as one them for having Shockwave abilities (paramethia) but is a zoan. Also you could see luffy using abilities from 2 df: 1) bellamy’s spring legs 2) buffalo(doffy crew) helecopter head And maybe the move he did when he bounced off the walls to hit kaido like kizaru did using glass to you could say teleport.
Katakuri didnt have properties of a logia, it only looked like it. What he did was use observation haki to see the future and then he would modify his body so the bullet for example would go thru him. I believe only mythical zoan type fruits can have 1 aditional property of either paramethia or logia. Good example is marco having logia properties while being a zoan or yamato having paramethia properties
To answer your thoughts in 3:10, about how luffy’s df is a zoan but could affect things around them like a paramacia for example how Marcos fruit is a mythical zoan but has properties of a logia, it’s the same with luffy he’s a zoan type but with properties of a paramecia so in a way he gets the best of both worlds

the original/first joyboy was the first person to awaken the gum gum fruit and the five elders said it hasn't awoken for over 800years which implies their have been others users bur they never awakened it
Technically we have seen another user of the awakened Zoan type was in Impel Down when Crocodile first mentioned the term awakening when referring to the cow minutaur guard but it was not known he came to differentiate which characteristic was different in addition to having greater strength and resistance.

Mythical zoans either have similar types with paramecia fruits or logia types just like Special paramecia have similar abilites to logia like katakuri and Its not confirmed but magellan seemed to be a special paramecia. As for the names yes its "Paramecia" idk why the anime was putting a "ythia" lol and then "Zoan" is usually pronounced as "Zo-IN" and then "Logia" normally pronounced as "Low-gia"

Their were other confirmed Zoan Awakenings up this point. This was at Impel Down. They are the 4 Jailer Beasts/Demon Guards there. This was confirmed by Crocodile in episode 447. The same episode where Luffy and Blackbeard briefly fought, for reference. It was brought up when the guards recovered so quickly.
For anyone wondering, we have actually seen 3 Mythical zoans awakened at this point in the story: Kaido, Yamato and Luffy. The cloud “ring” they get on their back when they are transformed means they are awakened. As for affecting their surroundings, thats just Luffy’s power. Other Zoans can’t do that. Awakened Paramecias can tho.
As far as we know for the awakening effects of different fruit types in One Piece are: Zoan: Major control of their forms (Beasts, creatures, etc.) . Enhanced durability and strength. Paramecia: Enhanced range of effect. Capacity to affect the environment and non living things. Logia: Not much information at the moment. It could enhance their basics abilities on major level but we have to wait to see what Oda have in mind. For the moment, Luffy´s fruit is so unique since has features of both Zoan and Paremecia type but with a twist because Luffy is able to not only manipulate the normal matter (environment) as a normal paremecia awakening but also living things like Kaido. Even further, his own presence is capable of affect other living things for example Nami, Chopper, Tama, and the rest of people fighting under the dome (The scene when everyone are so shocked that their eyes pop out.) Also, as a Zoan type the durability that he gains on this form is so huge but with a unique aspect since when he would receive a hit that would be almost letal he just "tank" the blow modifidying his own structure like when he received a direct hit and his face took on the shape of Kaido's weapon.
Mythical zoans can have any kind of ability outside of their own zoan type. Since they not just transform into mythical creatures but also copy their abilities (and mythical beings usually have special abilities of their own). Like Marco can mimic logia ability to be transparent to damage.
3:13 Its not about the fruit type, every fruit can effect the surrounding area from what i know, the only requirment is awakening your fruit, which requires you to know every single detail about your fruit, and ALOT of training. "Gear 5" is Luffys fruit awakened, the requirement apparently was for him to actual die for a second, thats why last episode you hear his heart stop, and then thats when the Drums of Liberation start Also when Momo says it "sounds" like Luffy, hes not tlaking about his actual voice, he meant his presence, Theyve been pointing out this whole time that Momo can feel and hear what Luffys thinking.... probably through his connection to Zunesha
Some mythical Zoan types and other devil fruits have similar properties to logia/Paramecia devil fruits, for example. Katakuri’s Mochi MoChi no mi which makes him look like a logia, and Marco’s mythical Phoenix fruit that makes him appear to be a logia. Also devil fruit awakenings allow the owner to affect the environment around them. That applies to Paramecia, Logia, and even mythical zoans in some case like luffy.
