This is the MakeNoise DPO and this is what it means to me. This is not an "end all be all" tutorial of the DPO, this is my perspective of how I like to use it.

There’s something about Makenoise that always screams creativity when I’m patching. Nice little vid

Thanks for taking the time to make this, I can imagine a lot of other people will appreciate this too. It was incredibly interesting having an insight into your production techniques. I look forward to seeing more in the future! 👍🏻

Awesome! Thank you for demonstrating a Reece Bass. I’m considering a modest Eurorack system but began wondering if I’m barking up the wrong tree for the type of music I produce. All modular demos seem to be focused purely on obscure acid lines and noise generation & drones.

I really love your music, mate. Thanks for the great video and your music. Hope we getting more videos soon! Some video about your worklflow to ideas and melodys would be awesome. Really love working with my DPO too! Have a good one, Matt!

Hey matt, would love to see a video of how you use your modular sounds in your workflow in your DAW especially for your productions.

Can you play the FM sounds at a keyboard, in tonally correct intervalls, called a melody?

Are you sure you're doing FM there? The mod bus takes the output of the OSC A and uses it to modulate the parameters on the right (fold, angle, shape), as well as EXP FM or LIN FM. Your EXP and LIN FM attenuators for OSC B are all the way down, but your Fold attenuator is all the way up, which to me means that once you bring the mod bus up, you're increasing the impact of OSC B into Fold, and not actual FM. I might be wrong tho, can someone else pitch in?

What sub do you run? Or at least I assume you run a sub cause those monitors look pretty small. Awesome video!!! I love modulars, do you ever think you will do a live stream of you producing?
@mattlangeaudio

They're Event Opals. They go pretty low. No sub.

I think this is going to be my first module, its going to annihalate my budget but man, jebus, this sound is fucking unREAL!!! I have to have this sound I cannot believe i am going down this route but your video just signed the deal for me!!!!!

Wow i'm watching this video for tips on using my DPO and i also have maths now, both are utterly brilliant modules and i highly reccomend both, anyone who is thinking of getting into modular should 100% get a Make Noise Maths its the single most brillant module i've come across, the grooves that maths allows are endless and infinite and can make any other modular voice or synth sing in ways you never imagined!!! Get one!

Would you recommend hardware over software in any place you could? As I can only mess around with limited funds are there any plug-ins youd personally recommend?
@mattlangeaudio
@mattlangeaudio 7 лет назад
I like hardware because it gets me away from the computer and I personally find it to be more inspirational in my own work. Software wise, Reaktor goes a long way.
@midilyfestyle
@midilyfestyle 7 лет назад
Ryan Cambray Literally anything you can do with modular you can do in Reaktor, sonically speaking. Hardware is good when it imparts a character that's hard to emulate in software: weird gnarly filters like the doepfer wasp, tape delay (although that's getting better in software), spring reverb, analog saturation, etc. but the software is getting so powerful that even the pros with resources are going completely in the box because it really does sound just as good once you've mixed and mastered everything down. That being said, modulars are great: wires, knobs, buying shit, what's not to love?

Hardware over software any day of the week. So much more fun and inspiring which leads to high creative output. It was definitely worth me getting into debt for everything I wanted.
@Andy-iw9su
@Andy-iw9su 6 лет назад
jozeph gee I disagree. I use reaktor and it still has aliasing on deep bass whereas analog oscillators don't alias at low frequencies. In this demo the DPO shows how clean low end frequencies are in analog - I defy anyone to reproduce this sonic character in reaktor.

i like the attitude of the first buzzy, pseudo square wave sound, but not the distortion or LFO type modulation, but that "808 kick" at the end thumped HARD with that fast attack where real 808 kicks sound more like a marshmallow. i could see how bass that hits you like a sledgehammer is important to your sound... being an acoustic suspension port hater myself. yeah... soft and resonant sucks next to hard thumping. i didn't know it was possible to ADSR pitch too. if that's a "special feature" of just maths, then it has earned a tiny bit of respect from me because i otherwise hate everything about it, but namely the cramming too many features in one box complexity that makes it bewildering to a noob who prefers one module per function "simplicity" and don't get me started on makenoise "graphics". LOL 808 kicks that hit you like a bullet train though is SOMETHING.
@mattlangeaudio

Maths quite honestly is my most frequently used module. It has my favorite envelopes and I use it for everything from lfo/env functions to mixing, attenuating, etc... it's complicated but worth every penny.
@rare_grooves_shack_1983
@rare_grooves_shack_1983 7 лет назад
i don't deny that is a VERY flexible module OR that it deserves its top 100 ratings BUT, its very CONFUSING "it does too many things" MO is the very reason i hate it. i'd rather have half a dozen clearly designated modules that do everything it does, one function at a time, and as to "complicated self modulating sequencer" type functions? i'd throw THOSE modules in the garbage. i will micro-modulate EVERYTHING myself with MIDI thank you. so maths does envelope generation... right... not as good as an ADSR, does it?!
@mattlangeaudio
@mattlangeaudio 7 лет назад
to each their own. Maths doesn't do ADSR, it say looping AD and AHR
@rare_grooves_shack_1983
@rare_grooves_shack_1983 7 лет назад
in its modular grid functions description, it's called an envelope generator, and you made my point... it's an INFERIOR envelope generator, just as i'm sure that many of the other functions crammed in can be improved upon by dedicated modules with more control. it cuts corners trying to do so much, besides being difficult to understand because everything does half a dozen unrelated things. i just don't like maths OR rampage one bit and will leave those modules to more typical modular heads who get off making complicated patches instead of taking direct control of their music.
@QuentinLeonetti
@QuentinLeonetti 7 лет назад
Maths doesn't do "too many things", it just does a few things really well. But it's usable in a lot of cases because the *applications* of the few things it does are useful in a lot of situations. Eg: if you take an enveloppe and make it loop at audio rate, it becomes an oscillator. But you won't say that your enveloppe generator module does too much because of that.
