I have just found concentric pots on reverb. I had no idea I needed them but now I am so happy because they solve a problem I had, I just never thought about this solution. I am equally happy about this new format/type of video he is doing. Who knew that's exactly what I was needing right now?
I love this episode. Jessica Dobson is a great player and a really smart and thoughtful person.Thank you for doing this! And also, "unbro-ing guitar" is a great phrase.
I got into Deep Sea Diver because Secrets was featured on Record Time ages ago. Seeing you all together was amazing, this record is amazing, and Jessica's tones are ridiculously amazing.
I thought I had a tap on these kind of groups (female leads - Garbage, Liz Phair, PJ Harvey), but I definitely lost my way until DSD opened for Pearl Jam this past week in LA. They are great and this interview was timely!
Before long JHS is going to have a magazine with interviews and music news and what not in it. Edit: I was just joking but it seems like people might actually be interested in this.
Coming back to this yet again, I just want to commend Josh on how respectful he is as an interviewer, he listens and he doesn't interrupt, and more importantly he treats her as an equal, as a musician. Obviously Josh is against the bro-ification of guitar but it was really refreshing to see that put into practice and not just words. Big ups to Josh for being so kind, thoughtful, engaging and again, respectful
This was a sick video, Josh. Turned me on to a new artist and I love her style, influences, and musical choices. Definitely going to be checking out more of their music. Keep this going, please!
Excellent episode. I hope you can do more like this. My wife actually watched and liked this episode as she's a fan of Deep Sea Diver. While she loves music and has excellent taste in music, she's not a musician, so this episode really crossed over to a broader audience. Keep it up JHS.
Surprised, even as guitarists talking about guitars, that I’m not hearing more praise for her amazing vocal work in the comments. She really uses her voice like an instrument in a way that I find really remarkable.
Awesome episode Josh and everyone from the JHS crew. If you only knew how much I enjoy your videos. Please do more of this style, it lets us learn more about and discover new artists.
@@JohnnyMacawSamantha Fish closed a show after Jimmy Vaughn. Her key player plugged in and maybe cracked half the speakers on the PA. Just had to go after that.
I saw her playing her Costello Jazzmaster with The Shins & was immediately intrigued by her taste in tone & gear. Did some research, found out about Deep Sea Diver & have been a fan ever since. Great video JHS! Offset lovers unite!!!
This is EXACTLY how I found her too. I was watching live Shins videos and one live video had really weak vocals for James but the backup singer/guitarist sounded great... it was her... so yeah :)
Wow, Deep Sea Driver must be great live. The performance at the end is awesome. The way the band executes and interlocks their parts makes that song come alive. Thanks for turning me on to them.
This. Video. Changed. My. Life. Because of this: A. My kids know Deep Sea Diver is inspirational, beautiful, and my favorite artist in 2020. B. I bought a tremelo and put it WHEREVER I WANT on my board.
I found Deep Sea Diver after hearing you mention them on this Channel. They have become one of my favorite bands! I love the gear talk, this is awesome.
Holy crap never heard of that band but just that song at the end has just made me a fan and now I have to listen to everything they got Josh you sneaky dog you
Great format. More of these if you have the time. Very good interview technique too Josh. I really enjoyed what Jessica had to say and it was great to be introduce to Deep Sea Diver. Thank you.
MASSIVE WOW. What a great video. Thank you Jessica and Deep Sea Diver for doing this. You took me back to 1989 ... I can't put my finger on it, really. I hadn't heard you before, but this was awesome. Thanks Josh for going in this direction. Peace.
Broksi... Thank you so much for this. I can’t believe I have not heard about these guys! Impossible Weight is my new play on repeat song!!! Keep up this series!!!
Thanks to this episode, Deep Sea Diver is my new favorite band. Just got their new record in the mail! Thank you for hipping me to this ill music! Jessica has impeccable taste "Another Green World" is one of the greats. Keep doing episodes like this! And, as always, keep up the stellar work guys.
DSD is one of my favorite bands of recent years and I watch this channel, so I have absolutely no fucking clue how this video managed to escape me. What a treat.
I had never heard of Jessica or Deep Sea Diver until last night. This is a terrific interview, wonderful stories (especially how she came to play with Beck). It's so important for younger players (especially women), to have advocates and it sounds like she's doing that. Also, the new album is terrific .
Man, this show just keeps getting better and better. You and Nick are killer players, the whole thing's edited and mixed really well and even the gags all land (the timing of the dudes waiting on the couch reveal was perfect). And now this amazing interview with an artist I wasn't familiar with whose stuff I'm definitely checking out right now, plus a great sounding, nicely shot full band performance...damn, you guys are knocking it out of the park!
Forever from now on do this with all your faves and enlighten the universe. This was cool. I let my baby cry for a bit just to see some jammage that was super cool, and I didn't feel bad about it. That's how much i enjoyed this episode. Your pedals are the best. Whatever .. The best.
@@nathanadams2600 Yeah - that appeared to be an artwork only thing, though. I'm hoping there's an effect combo that represents her sound or tone preferences that can be useful/influential to a wide audience. Who knows - might be a future thing.
This is downright freaky. Jessica is 20 years younger than I, she could be my daughter, and somehow, we have the same favorite, well, everything. Guitarists, albums, nerdery- it's like a younger, cooler, more successful me. We both have EC Jazzmasters, ferrchrissake! (Mine is named "Nelvis" after Nels and Elvis, BTW.) If I'd had a daughter, I'd want her to be Jessica. Now- GO BUY HER RECORDS!!! BUY THEM!
Ditto Maggie. I love my ECJM and first noticed Jessica because of hers (there was a discussion on OSG). I loved her music from the first listen & I have been following Deep Sea Diver's releases since (vinyl forever!).
Great interview. I am just discovering Deep Sea Diver, great timing. Jessica is a great talent. Well done. What a great line. "I'd love to, my band is right over there."
I love a music interview where the asker of the questions knows what goes into playing an instrument and writing a song. I never want to hear an NPR nerd ask a musician another question ever again. Also, upvote for jamming in these videos.
Great interview, great live. One if the the best episode with the one with Paul Gilbert. I hope you're going to do with more and more episode with the artists. These are them use your pedal and make the music we Love so much.
Great episode, really enjoyed it. First time I've heard Deep Sea Diver but loved the sound and Jessica was really cool too; really liked her explanation of her approach to getting sounds out of her pedals. Thanks again for great videos Josh and co.
Holy moly! Thanks for this artist feature. Great song! Cool guitar work and great vocal. She has a great gift for melody. I love the Dale Bozzio-esque inflections! Gotta get the record.
