Saw countless videos about the Flashpoint/Godox AD600 and after watching this video with samples, it clinched the deal for me and I purchased it about 7 months ago. No regrets whatsoever....other than I have not been able to use it much due to horrible California Bay Area weather. Soon it will be consistent and then, it's on!! Thanks, as always, Jason!!

Jason, your videos have led me to the Xplor 600. My question is are you using the TTL version or manual? If you plan on doing any tutorial sessions on the East coast please let me know. I’d love to learn some of your tricks. Great video as always!

great Video i also own the 600b , there one more positve thing thing to mention , its multi system capabilitys, u can use the same 600b with a canon and a sony you just need different trigger, that is especially interesting for many canon folks switching to sony but keeping their canon as a back up like me

Ditto, I had the Profotto D2 500W with the TTL Air Remote, and loved it, until I had to go out on location and my D2 but it was way too powerful to run on my miniVagabond. I sent it back and got the Flashpoint Xplor 600 and I have not missed a beat. The wind got me when I had it on a light stand and it fell on the cement, I picked it up and brushed it off and it still worked. Love being able to work with groups. I use my Godox 360 as a fill light (had to buy a flashpoint receiver). I rarely shoot full power, and my battery lasts almost all week (3-4 different shoots). Great buy, Adorama just had the TTL version for $550.

I've seen several of this guy's videos in the past few weeks. The information can be helpful, yes, but his arrogance and ego and creepiness factor with the models get in the way. He's trying to look cool, hipster. Then he touches the models and calls them "honey," like they were some dumb, little girls that need him. Not the behavior from a professional.

Tip for shooting HSS flash in bright light... Use a .3 ND filter on your primes... This will cut the light by 1/2 and allow you to shoot at F1.4... I live in Arizona, so I do this most of the time.
@JasonLanierPhotography
@JasonLanierPhotography 7 лет назад
Thomas Lenard yes I know. But as I mentioned the purpose was to show what this light could do without any other diffusers, ND filters etc..:)
@goldeneagle256
@goldeneagle256 7 лет назад
better not use the ND filter if you dont have to..... the best filters are quite expencive and still gives a little bit of image quality reduction...
@thomaslenard2465
@thomaslenard2465 7 лет назад
I only use it when shooting into the sun...I mostly do watersports photography... .3 ND is the right amount to get the shutter speed below 1/8000 at F1.4 or F1.8 without any quality reduction.

Excellent tutorial videos. Those who question his look should remember this is a RU-vid video channel and his liveliness brings good energy. Don't really feel he's objectifying anyone. Additionally, I've been taught by outstanding teachers, whether they've got a strong personality or not they accomplished their goal to educate. This guy's got a great personality. I'd like to try one of his workshops.

Hi Jason, hope you can find some spare time to reply. I've just bought my AD600 unit, and plan to use it on beach locations like you do. I'm worried regarding its weather sealing (there's a fan inside of that thing!). Can salty moisture coming from the waves, an overall salty humidity you find on beaches hurt the strobe's electronics? I mean, the fan inside will be literally sucking air with particles of salty water, that can't be good for the flash. How is your experienced regarding this? Keep up with the amazing work! I subscribed to your channel!

These really are great lights, and a great system. I dumped everything I had, and replaced with these, and have recently added the zoom speed lights. I've not had a moment's trouble out of the triggers. Glad to see you using, and endorsing them. As I have to rely on others to feel better about my decisions.. ;)

In the video you're using a wide angle lens, so it seems like the model is way further back. What was the actual flash to subject distance. Also, I notice you are shooting at dusk. How will this flash work in broad daylight? Will it have enough power so that you can move it further back for full length shots and group portraits at weddings?

If u mean the HD610. NO, NOT FOR SONY
@mandurahchess
@mandurahchess 7 лет назад
Marc Hörrmann the HD600v is pretty new, I believe one for Sony is coming. I want it for Fujifilm.... there is a work around Cactus V6 Mark II supports HSS and can fire, but not manage, studio lights. I have not verified this... You need a trigger that supports HSS. it sends a signal before the shutter opens. It can be a speedlight, it doesn't have to light the subject. You need studio lights, or a trigger, that responds optically. The light has to stay on for the sync speed. I imagine that if you have an HSS trigger for the studio lights you can control the lights with that. I think a lightning trigger might wwwork too, to trigger the camera when the flash flashes.
@mandurahchess
@mandurahchess 7 лет назад
Marc Hörrmann the hd610 does TTL.I think there is a trigger for the HD600V. I'm interested in Fujifilm and Canon.
@Der_Marc
@Der_Marc 7 лет назад
John Summerfield but u cant control with the trs-v trigger the new HD610V.
@mandurahchess
@mandurahchess 7 лет назад
Marc Hörrmann That is true. I decided that I didn't want to spend the extra money for TTL, so didn't investigate it. The TRS-V does control the HD600v, but doesn't support HSS. For HSS you need a trigger that understands your camera. I have TR-A6 for Canon.

Hi Jason, great video!. I bought a AD600 a few months ago and I got a question... when I shoot in HSS with my nikon D610 I'm always watching a strip of light on the lower edge of the sensor and I don't know why, I have used 1/4000 and 1/2000 with different apertures and ISO's and nothing, something is happening with the shutter I think, but it has happened to you or someone else?

I have the flashpoint RL 600 and it is even cheaper. It has HSS but you have to use a HSS trigger. I use my PW with the flashpoint trigger mounted on top of it and it works great. I have a comment and question. I have heard that Adorama will replace these flashpoint units during the warranty period but after the warranty is out they are not supported. In other words if you have a problem with them they can't be sent in for repair and parts will not be available for them. Can anyone confirm or repute this? I think I read this on a forum.

To save even more money for an amatuer photographer, would a Flashpoint R2 with Li-ion (for fast recycle) or with AA batteries, along with a speedflash bracket with Bowen mount, work as well with the softbox? Would the flash power of the speedlight vs. the monolight be the deal breaker?
