So far I have not made anything on this grill that has not been fantastic. I've made burgers, pork ribs, pork shoulder, chicken fajitas, pork steaks, and beef steaks. My favorite thing to cook on this grill is thick rib eyes at 500 degrees using a blend of charcoal and hickory pellets. I cook them about 8 minutes total on each side (turning them about 45 degrees after 4 minutes to create the crisscross grill pattern) and let them rest for about 10 minutes covered before eating them. They come out perfect every time to about medium rare. Make sure you cook on the right side directly over the fire pot (with the fire pot cover in place along with the drip tray) as it is by far the hottest side of the grill necessary for the charring. They are by far the juiciest steaks that I have ever eaten in my life.

I love the grill for all the myriad of bullet points it has and I've done 4 different major cooks. My only criticisms are that it doesn't go under 200 degrees and have a smoke level adjustment. Added a 70 in Cuisinart cover, Cuisinart rib rack, and a smoking tube for extra smoky flavor. I'm very happy and impressed with all this grill offers for the price compared to Pit Boss, Camp Chef and Traeger l even though it was a tough decision.

I looked at this before when my local WalMart had it for $300. Today when I went by it was $150, so I grabbed one. I have a Camp Chef 24" that will remain my main smoker and grill, but the ability to use charcoal and briquettes make this well worth it even if I only use it once a month. It'll also be great for when I need to do large cooks, or multiple items.

I love my Woodcreek, but unfortunately mine came with a problem where the hot rod would stay on constantly even when it wasn't turned on. I emailed them, and they determined it needed a new board. After giving them the info they wanted (serial number and date of purchase), they sent out the new part immediately. So glad I did not have to pack that thing up and return it. About 10 minutes of work and it was up and going again with the problem fixed. Great customer service. I wish dealing with all companies was that easy. BTW, anyone looking for a replacement hot rod, the Traeger hot rod fits perfect, plugs right in, and comes with a fuse. My hot rod wore out from being on for a few days before I noticed that it never turned off. The only one available locally was a Traeger hot rod which I took a chance on, and it was identical to the Cuisinart except that the shrink tubing on the wiring was a different color, even the fuse was the same type.

I just returned my charGrill 980 and purchased the Cuisinart 4 in 1. I have only done a couple of short cooks so the verdict is not 100% this being said i just did a 3 hour cook of a full pork loin. I started out by cutting the loin into 2 halves and smoking for 3 hrs at the 200 degree setting. One thing i learned is that if you start the cook with the temperature over your set point it seems to hold that higher temperature, after i opened the top to get the temp down to 200 it seemed to hold that temp with in 5 or 6 degrees. The issue i have on my previous grill was the temperatures would not hold steady and a 200 degrees cook climbed to over 400!! Once the loin reached 135 i pulled it let if rest until 20 minutes before the desired dinning time and placed the searing insert in and let it get up to temp, out standing !! I placed the 1" plus chops on the searing grill for 2 to 3 mins per side and sauced watching the internal temperature pulling them at 145 so good!!. I did have a issue with the temperature probes reading 10 or more degrees different , Cuisinart is sending me new ones. I'll let you know how the long cooks go for pork butts or briskets... so far I give this a 8.5 i would like more smoke flavor , this may come with learning the unit, also the blue tooth sucks! needs updated to wifi!!

Also one more point on addition to not going down to 180 or having a smoke adjustment is that it doesn't do 25 degree increments after 300. So you can't set 325, 375, 425 or 475 at all.

Nice review guys! Looking at the Camp Chef with the "sidekick" insert, but it's so expensive! Curious more about cleaning - you mention the ease to dispose of ash - what about grease drippings? For example, the new Weber is having issues of grease fires. How does this grill do for grease runoff? Thanks for any advice and keep up the good work!

The grease just runs down a spout into a tray underneath. There really isn't a lot of ash after each cook. Its a good practice to clean the grill plates regularly.

Im trying to understand why it took y'all 3 hrs to assemble this grill? I've had 7 back surgeries and I was able to put this cuisinart 4 and 1 Pellet Grill put together in just about 90 and I had to take a break cause I was just shy of 4 weeks of surgery #7. My wife she read out the instructions as I assembled it. The hood is a rather large semi heavy piece and my neighbor came over and he and my wife put it on top of grill cause I physical was useless to help with that. He just was wow I can't wait to use that beautiful beast of a grill. I can say an 18-21lbs low and slow brisket looks and tastes absolutely amazing. I was going to buy the pitboss platinum pellet grill with smoker cabinet above but it was hard to locate in my area so I tried the cuisinart pellet grill and I'm very pleased with it, out the door less then $700 with tax. The pitboss was almost $120 more according to my cousin down in Forney, TX and he said the temp has to be really 400-450° high in order to get a 225° temp in upper smoking cabinets so I didn't like that cause I live in snow and -30° and that would burn though a 40lbs of pellets when I'm smoking year round. I agree with this video except the build time was a bit excessive they must have been drinking 😉😂😂
@BBQandBottles
@BBQandBottles 4 года назад
Glad to hear it only took you 90 minutes. As you might have noticed from the video we assembled this guy in the middle of winter. It was -40° when we assembled it and I wasn't wearing gloves in order to be able to maintain dexterity. I didn't think it slowed me down that much, but clearly it did if this only took you 90 minutes. Glad you're enjoying it.

Love the idea of the charcoal because this is everything I want in a grill smoker, it’s like having my cane and eat it too, but what would you say if I was only grilling two steaks, and also on a separate cook boneless skinless chicken thighs, I’m gonna be heating up alot of space for just two steaks. Again love the idea of the charcoal!!! I wish it just had separate burners for the ceramic briquettes.. I’ve seen pit boss 1100 combo gas/smoke.. but it don’t have the charcoal... ugh.. choices I tell you.

I just made smoked and char-grilled steaks and potatoes on the Cuisinart Woodcreek. Smoke tube in there for good measure. I steak-rubbed then smoked the steaks at 225 until they reached 120 internally. Meanwhile, I nuked whole potatoes (I usually boil in water and red vinegar, slightly smash, then coat in Olive oil and salt) until tender. Once the steak was at 120, I prepared my charcoal in the Woodcreek until it was over 700. Smoke tube next to it. Got great grill marks and crust on my steaks and my potatoes. The char flavor combine with the smoke was over-the-top good. Clean up was a cinch. You can get the charcoal taste onto ribs too this way. The Pitboss flame broiler doesn't excite me anymore.

@@TheModeRed Nice review by BBQ and Bottles! Your video (and price point) encouraged me to decide on this grill. Also...thank you Charles for your input. I just purchased the grill and can't wait to put it together and start grilling this weekend. I'm new to pellet grilling and it's my first wood pellet grill. I like your instructions on how you did your steak but want to clarify the process. I imagine it would take at least 10-15 minutes to get the temp to 700 with the charcoals. While waiting to get to that temp, did you take your steaks off the grill completely or did you leave it on the grill? Sorry if it seems like a stupid question, but I've never smoked and char-grilled a steak and I want to replicate your "over-the-top good" results. Thanks.
@TheModeRed
@TheModeRed 4 года назад
@@ozzief9043 You will love your Woodcreek. Main grate surface area and vertical space alone make it amazing. You can find racks on Amazon that when doubled up give you 1.5x the space, and are 4 to 5 inches high, no problem. To cook the steaks, I cooked to 120-125, then tented them on the side table. Get your grill smoking red hot (with lid open so the O2 gets it there faster). Put your steak on and sear till you have crust and cross hatch grill marks on both sides that you like, basting as you go. It should come out rare to medium rare, depending on how charred you like the crust. If you like it more on the medium side, smoke the steak to 130 or 135 before searing. Resting 15 minutes before searing is actually the preferred method and gives you plenty of time to get your preloaded charcoal tray and grates up to temp. Cheers!

Great review! I'm really torn between this & the camp chef woodwind sg24. I really like that the cuisinart has the ability to use charcoal, has the viewing window & has lights on the inside. Upsides of the camp chef is wifi, ability to control smoke intensity through the app & the slide to sear plate. Also camp chef customer service seems to be great from what I hear on Facebook groups. Not sure about cuisinart, although they do have a much bigger presence in the culinary world. I guess it comes down to how good the PID controller is in each of them, heard great things from camp chef but not much about cuisinart. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
@BBQandBottles
@BBQandBottles 3 года назад
Personally, I'd go with the Cuisinart for a couple of reasons: - The ability to use charcoal as you flagged which is a real plus when you're trying to reverse sear steaks. - It's $300 cheaper ($599 vs. $899) - Most importantly all of the grilling space is on a single rack making it more usable. Grilling space on pellet grills is pretty misleading when you start talking about multiple racks/levels. I say that because often times when you're using multiple levels the lower level can only accommodate thin proteins like ribs or salmon. The Cuisinart let's you have all of that space on a single level. This is really big difference that I don't think people value right. The only things that entice me about the Woodwind SG24 would be: - Ability to start smoking as low as 160F vs. 200F on the Cuisinart. I like smoking fish at really low temps. - The smoke level adjustment that you point out. So personally I think it's an easy decision to go with the Cuisinart, but that's just my view.

@BBQandBottles

You just put it over top of the firebox so it gets good and hot. That way when you’re searing steaks over it and fat renders down onto the briquettes they vaporize and add an amazing flavor to your cooks.

Would you go with this or the Traeger Pro 575? I’m leaning more toward this as I want to cook hot dogs and hamburgers more like a regular (propane or charcoal) grill. But people say I can do that on the traeger? My husband is leaning more toward the Traeger. Would I be disappointed with the Traeger the first time I cooked a hot dog on it?
@BBQandBottles
@BBQandBottles 4 года назад
We have the Traeger Pro 34 and the Timberline 850 and you can't sear or char hot dogs or burgers on there. They're both great grills and you could crank out some incredible smoked burgers and sausage, but you're not going to get the flame kissed charring like you can with the Woodcreek.

Have a couple of observations, and a couple of questions about the Cuisinart Woodcreek 4-in-one. I currently have an old Traeger Lil-Texas. One of the features not mentioned is that the exterior seems to be stainless. If you have ever experienced trying to clean a Traeger with that rough surface you would understand. It is impossible to make it look good after a couple of uses. You had the comment about the Cuisinart not having the “exhaust pipe”. The firepot, at least on a Traeger, is dead smack in the middle. So at most the smoke would go from the middle to the end. A Traeger is really a convection oven. A fan blows the smoke all around. Also, the Traeger does not have a good seal around the lid, so smoke comes out everywhere. If you also have noticed, the new, expensive, Traeger Iornwood has no smoke stack, and is about $1200 for the cheapest with 650 grilling surface. They claim special venting, but who knows. Now questions I noticed that it appears all of the temperatures set by the dial had a fixed number. Traeger has a setting called smoke. It just augers the pellets in on a fixed pattern. It does not check the internal temperature to activate the auger. Instead it has a P factor. The factory preset for the smoke on my Lil-Texas is P2. I have reset it to P4. At that setting, the auger waits longer between cycles. That tends to cool the smoker. I have noticed that the lower the temp, the better the smoke. (I live in the bay area of San Francisco, no snow) Does the Cuisinart have something like this, or is it always checking the internal temp and auguring pellets in to keep the temp stable?
@BBQandBottles
@BBQandBottles 4 года назад
Lyle, thanks for the thoughtful comment! The Cuisinart Woodcreek doesn’t have a smoke setting like the Traegers. It’s first setting is 200F so it’s always operating on a setting where it’s trying to maintain a specific temp.

How would compare this grill to the PB 820 Pro? Especially from a smoking standpoint. I am looking to purchase a new grill/smoker and was just told about this one. There are some really great features, but still not sure which way to go.
@BBQandBottles
@BBQandBottles 4 года назад
Well, I don’t have a PitBoss 820 but from what I can read online the PB820 has a smaller pellet hopper, you can only use one fuel, it doesn’t have a Bluetooth connection to monitor your temps remotely and it doesn’t have the griddle accessory. Feels like the Cuisinart is the more obvious choice to me given they’re basically the same price point.

Cool let us know how it turns out. I was just concerned about heat control with the top being down and the charcoal burning. I was thinking about installing a damper on the side of the grill. I don't have this grill yet however I am seriously considering it. I have a camp chef pro dlx with sear box but I installed a smoke daddy on the side for extra smoke. Matt Wright it produces a ton of smoke, there is a extreme smoke setting (it’s 180 degrees) but the sweet spot is 180-225 if you want a ton of smoke. There might be a misperception that billows of white smoke is good for cooking, you want to run a light blue smoke for clean cooking which these do at the proper temp.
