Looks like a good item. Might get one or two of these. Recently got a FliegerDuffel so can use on that (that bag is amazing, love it). Thanks for showing this.
I would have considered buying one, if not for the wafer lock on the side, which is very easy to pick. But we don't have the TSA in Australia, so as a luggage lock in America it seems like a great choice!
Before you destroy it I would also try how easy they are to find out the combination. Often with these locks you can figure out the code by rotating the numbers and pressing the unlock button or pulling the loop to feel where it is. Some are easier than others... and yes, there are faster ways, like a wirecutter.
not everyone is a lock picker, as far as luggage size locks go this is the best option I have seen thus far, like knives I will never understand why people feel the need to have something so overbuilt for such a simple task
Yep, the old pen pushed through the zipper teeth trick. When done correctly one can grab a hold of both zippers and easily align the teeth back in place so no one would even know that someone had opened it. I've never done that, but I've seen it done. I'm sure there's probably a video on here showing that trick for those who've never seen it.
nope, Im really flying somewhere and no one will know about it, its personal, I will more than likely make some videos on the trip but not about the trip, just random stuff I notice or think about or like new hotel EDC, lol
a locks purpose is to deter, theres not a lock that cant be picked or broken, if a person wants to get past any security they can with knowledge and time
jeff now the tsa uses pens to poke your zipper open. they can then zip your combined lock zippers backwards and it will appear as if nothing happened to your bag
That is true, and I do like the fact that its using a braid. However one of my various hobbies is locksport (lock picking/bumping/etc) so when I have such an understanding of locks... Seeing one like this just makes me cringe. It's like the combo likes that have a keyway in them, in my experience even if that lock is near perfect and un-shimable I can always pick it open from the keyhole in the back.... :/
TRY THIS .....regardless of what kind of lock you have on a suitcase you can open open it with a pen ....place the tip of the pen where the two sides of the zip meet, and push the pen through ...now the zip seal is broken and you can open the bag completely remove the valuables ....the worst thing is that this doesn't damage the zip in any way and you can easily restore the seal by moving the locked zippers as you would normally do ...just letting everyone know :)
i have that carry on luggage i got it for Christmas i have also been planing a trip for little over a year (youtube related) i have my passport im just trying to convince a travel buddy to go with me
It is not the TSA stealing from your checked luggage it is the airport baggage handlers going through your luggage. Unless an x-ray or explosives alarm goes off a TSA agent never touches your bags.
you should do a demo on breaking the walmart locks. just to prove that the maxpedition are a better way to go. really i just wanna see that thing snap :P
Now the only problem is the zipper itself. You can easily pry the zipper apart with a pen or knife without cutting open the luggage or breaking the lock.
If you have a room in your house that you keep all your expensive stuff and you don't need to go in and out very often check out the "Burglar Bomb AB-2000". Just type it into the RU-vid search and there is a demo video. It's a cool, james bondish device.
KipKay did a video on how the airport security takes his laser from the locked bag, without opening the lock... Watch it,the name of the video is " Is Your Luggage Safe from airport security? "
Google "Master Lock 4688D" and you'll see quality cable locks for as little as $1(!) REI has been selling those style locks for years. And the Max lock has a design flaw: too much cable, it allows for snagging (or snipping). Fact is given what you are locking up, both the shackle style and the cable style are about the same level of deterrent.
C'on... Ok, this thing is cool, quite usefull, but i could easily cut it off with my leatherman! Nah... I would rather buy a simple 2$ full metal, key lock! Still, loving the videos, keep up the awesome work!
they'll never be gone its all an illusion of safety. Once tax dollars start being spent it's hard for them to shut it down. For every 1 hour of flight it's 5 hours of driving, but superman did say flying is the safest way to go...it's crazy if you see a map of the planes in the area they're above us all day long
that TSA stuff does not work... those "agents" as you called them could care less about preserving your lock by unlocking it using their key, they destroyed my TSA approved lock at Newark and I heard of multiple more cases...
